When I was a sophomore, it finally became my time to get a little. I was so excited because many of my friends at different schools already had theirs, and I couldn’t wait. I spent Bid Day with the two girls who later became my littles, and I’m so glad I did; otherwise, I wouldn’t have learned how amazing they were before it came time for Big/Little week.
Big/Little Week came around and I couldn’t choose between them. They were both too great, so I put them both on my list, figuring that the system would match me to whoever was the best fit. Lucky for me, the system agreed that they were both the best fit, and it hit me that I was going to have these two amazing girls in my family. When I told other people I had twins, some would say things like “oh no, I’m so sorry,” “that’s going to be so much more expensive,” “you’ll have to spend so much more time,” or “why wouldn’t you pick just one?” And to all of those crazy comments, I would just reply: I wanted twins because I wanted both of them and nothing besides that matters.
And so, in response to all those who are shocked or overwhelmed at the thought of having twins, here are just a couple of the reasons why having two littles is better than having one:
Two is company, three’s a crowd.
You automatically have a little party whenever you guys hang out because there isn’t just two people.
You get to watch not one, but two girls experience the joys of their new sisterhood.
Having twins allowed me to help two girls through the initiation process of joining the sisterhood I was proud to be a part of.
You have an extra person in your corner.
Sometimes life just gets to be too much to handle all by yourself. Having two littles means having an extra person to turn to when you need to vent or blow off steam. And it gives you two extra shoulders to lean on.
Matching outfits look so much better with three people than with just two.
No explanation necessary.
Lastly, having twins gives you two people to pass your tricks onto when it comes time for you to graduate.
I couldn’t be happier about the fact that I have two littles instead of one because I get to share my college experience with both of them. And with two of them, it’s always double the fun.
