I know this probably isn't what some call politically correct, and I will get some type of backlash. But it's time that someone comes forward and says something. I'm tired of this anti 2nd amendment rhetoric.
I am a proud 20-year-old registered gun owner in the great state of California. Which means I studied, took the fire arms safety test, passed background investigation, and than waited my full 10 days till I had the opportunity to pick up my gun. I went through training as a teenager in ordered to have gun knowledge and know how to protect myself. I know the four important rules of gun safety, and treat every gun as if it is loaded.
As some of the gun fanatics in the United States know, California is one of the hardest places to get any type of legal gun. Myself and many who love firearms know and can contest we are tired of hearing that "all guns" are the problem. I'm done with the generalization towards guns and the gun owners themselves. Lawmakers and political figures want to point fingers at guns. Continuing to make our gun laws strict isn't going to fix the problem! Before you go and judge gun owners, think about this...
In 2007, the total firearm murders came to 8,583 and that was accounting for assault weapons semi automatic rifles. According to the FBI's statistics, in 2013 the total firearm death rate has dropped to 8,554. Studies have shown that guns stop somewhere from 800 thousand to 2 million violent crimes a year. Knives and practicing doctors who commit malpractice kill more humans than guns. But everyone is so quick to jump on the banning guns bandwagon. I see what has gone on in the past few years with the tragic gun situations where innocent lives were lost. But has anyone thought that it's the human behind the gun? The minute tragedies happen, our law makers jump on the opportunity to make laws tougher and try to divide a law between those who agree and those who oppose. I will never understand why tragedy has to turn into anti gun agendas and divide us.
We are all humans, we all have feelings, and beliefs. But most importantly, we are all Americans and when our own is attacked we should fight back against those who trespassed against us. I wear my red, white, and blue proud and I will never apologize for believing in my constitution or apologize for being proud of the country I am from. Nor will I ever be shameful about what the constitution that our great country was built on. I have the constitutional rights to bear arms and protect myself which I intend to do to the fullest intent.
