Who ever would think that their life could become a Nicholas Sparks novel? A few of Sparks' books have been adapted to film (i.e. "The Notebook," "Dear John," "The Lucky One," etc.). The characters usually have a struggle midway through the plot and the ending is one of those sappy “they lived happily ever after” types. Little did two people from a small town on Long Island know that their lives soon could be made into one of these best selling novels.
A local Long Island fireman and businessman fell for a young woman after a night of roller-skating. He had told his friends that he was going to marry that young woman one day. The two later went on to date and started thinking about a future together. The relationship sadly did not last and the two went their separate ways.
About a year after the break-up, he ran into his former girlfriend in the most unthinkable way. He responded to a car accident where a woman was T-boned by another car that had run the red light. He soon found out that the woman pinned in the car was the girl he had fallen in love with years prior. He did all that he could to help her and after she was sent to the hospital he lost contact with her yet again.
Fast forward 29 years. An average Friday afternoon, after receiving his mail he found what appeared to be a letter. Recognizing the name from the return address from his youth, he hoped nothing was wrong. With absolute shock he read the letter over and over. The woman he had fallen for all those years ago was reaching out to him and wanted to grab a drink. After little thought he called the woman and they scheduled to meet up at a local restaurant. Needless to say the two hit it off.
Twenty nine years, later the two are grateful for each other's company. They have been seeing each other for about two months now and are starting to get to know one other all over again. There are a few lessons to be learned
Lesson one; don’t give up on love because when you are least expecting it- it comes knocking on your door. The joke around town was that this woman was the one that got away, but 29 years later she came back.
Lesson two; this rarely happens, so when it does take notice because it probably is something really special. In a world with billions of people- no one would have guessed that these two would ever find their way back to one another.
Lesson three; don’t write something off right away. Just because it didn’t work out the first time doesn’t mean it won’t work now. At the time of their first relationship the two were young. Now both in their 50s, they have seen the world, and are definitely more mature.
