'Twas the Night Before Bid Day

Brace yourselves for the swarm of new members.

'Twas the Night Before Bid Day

Recruitment is great. But after the long days and nights are over, celebrating bid day and the newest pledge class is the icing on the cake. A lot of thoughts and emotions run through your head before  the actual day arrives, which can make the night before bid day just as stressful as the weeks leading up to it.

'Twas the night before bid day, and all through the house

Every sister was stirring, advisor and mouse.

The bid cards were sent to the PNMs with care

In the hopes that a new pledge class soon would be there.

Good luck thinking you'll get to your bed

Because all night you'll be voting and cleaning instead.

Recruitment chairs breathe a sigh of relief

While new member coordinators start dealing with grief.

Sorry your feet hurt from wearing high heels

But at least for a week you had calves of steel.

House tours and philanthropy were the very longest days

While skit round and preference were meaningful in many ways.

Exhaustion sets in toward the end of the day

And you try to remember, "what did I even say?"

Meanwhile PNMs are too excited to dream

But you, on the other hand, have run out of steam.

First there were house tours, running up and down floors,

Letting total strangers burst through your doors.

Then came philanthropy, a much longer day

Where you’re constantly hoping you think of something to say.

Was the skit funny? Did anyone laugh?

I mean you definitely heard people chuckle in the back…(right?)

Finally preference ended the week

Emotions run high while our sisters speak.

Bid day bags line the hallways in rows

T-shirts and presents and fun props for those

Who chose to Go Greek and accepted a bid

They are the very best girls and you’re glad that they did.

The new member coordinator is ready to go

And excited to put on an elaborate show.

As you lay down to sleep after long weeks of rounds,

You can almost here the exciting sounds.

“We can’t wait to know you!” “We love you!” and “Welcome home!”

The nerves settle in, but deep down you know,

The best pledge class ever will arrive tomorrow night

With dozens of screaming girls it will be quite a sight.

Ready for sleep, you call out and say,

Goodnight everyone… see you on bid day!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
