Have you found yourself talking about old television shows and how entertaining they were when we were younger? We have all reminisced on how thought-out television was compared to today's broadcasted shows. Although most of us are still millennials, we had family or friends who introduced us to some shows, and once we watched them, we could not go back to normal television. Maybe it is time to finally stop being nostalgic and go back to watch some hit 90s shows.
The 90s had an abundance of new trends for younger generations. Suddenly it wasn't just about what made our parents happy, but what made teens and kids overjoyed. 90s television changed a new focal point in the entertainment system. I mean, 2015 is already more than halfway over, and the kids of the 90s are slowly becoming adults, and we still can't get over those wacky and amusing shows. In no particular order, let's take a look at some of our favorite shows.
1. "Rugrats"
These babies traveled in their own imaginary world, teaching us how fun it was to pretend to be somewhere. As their adventures took us from our own world into theirs, we fell more in love with each character. The potty humor and point of views from children makes us now understand not to take life too seriously. We can all see ourselves in one or even multiple characters, and that's to say: everyone had a mutual agreement that Angelica was probably the meanest character.
2. "Full House"
"Full House" was the everyday family show generated for sappy family clichés. Although it premiered in 1987, "Full House's" popularity grew in the 90s. The show brought in something new for everyone: the adorable children that we see grow up being raised by men, the attractiveness of sleek Uncle Jesse and goofiness of Joey. But the most important part was family values. Each episode ends with new life lessons delivered by our beloved father Danny. This show demonstrates good morals, and how the help of others can make our day brighter.
3. "Daria"
Back when MTV decided to make a spin-off from "Beavis and Butthead," "Daria" came to exist. This show described the life of an angsty teen with sarcastic humor. Watching this show again, you begin to realize the cynicism of Daria's dark humor, and how we have become her. With her best friend, Jane Lane, a misfit artist, she tries to escape the superficiality of their hometown. Daria is an embodiment of the modern hipster hating on mainstream life.
4. "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"
Our favorite teenage witch is back in town, and she came with family. Sabrina, a half-human half-witch, goes to live with her Aunts, who are also witches, to teach her how to balance her life. Although she has powers, she still has to deal with the angst of trying to fit in. All the characters have such great chemistry. And let's point out the talking cat, Salem. In a women-dominated household, his sarcastic humor for world domination brings in all the laughs. Sabrina is a terrific role model in a world of trials and errors.
5. "Boy Meets World"
This sitcom tested the efforts of young Cory Matthews. With his best friend Shawn and romantic interest Topanga by his side, he was taught that he could do anything. Their teacher Mr. Feeny was not only their teacher, but also a friend and a father figure for all of them. We see the cast grow up from sixth grade all the way to college and beyond. "Boy Meets World" demonstrates that although the world is big, we have to grab it and find our will to never give up, because we always have people who will believe in us.
6. "Hey Arnold!"
The show follows a fourth-grader living in a city reminiscent of Brooklyn, New York, in the 90s. He lives in a multi-racial community, and with his classmates from P.S. 118 he is able to live a new adventure each day. We all enjoyed the football-headed daydreamer and his cool urban tales. And even though they are only nine, there is quite the romance with secret admirer Helga. "Hey Arnold" displays the fun of kids being kids.
The 90's sure had more television shows, and though Netflix does not have them, we can find other ways to enjoy them. Let's stop the talk about how good they were and watch these shows again.
