Tutoring Resources On Campus

As a freshmen on campus I had no idea what resources were available to me on campus. I felt like I had to struggle with Math 111 homework and studying on my own but I was wrong. I soon learned there were numerous tutoring resources available on campus to help me and I'm here to share these with you so you don't have to struggle like I did. Comment below if you know of any other helpful resources I may have missed!

1. The Math Learning Center

The MLC is located in Kidder Hall 108 and has tutors to help you with everything from Math 103 to Math 306. Each term starting the Monday of the second week of classes and ending dead week (the last week of classes) drop in tutoring is available from 9 am-5 pm Monday-Thursday and 9 am- 4 pm Fridays. There is always someone there that can help you figure out concepts, work through homework problems, or help you to study for midterms. It is also a great resource for setting up a study group. There is also a computer lab available just in case you forgot to finish an online homework assignment, textbooks and calculators available for checkout, and makeup testing resources.

2. The Economics Lab

Not many people know about this tutoring resource but for college of business students it is an important one. Microeconomics was a huge struggle for me sophomore year but once I started going to the tutoring center and working through extra credit problems, homework questions, and examples in the book I understood the concepts way more. It is located in Ballard Extension Hall Room 330G. In the lab there are 6 computers, extra credit and homework answer sheets, textbooks, and a printer available. Tutors are available for ECON 201 and ECON 202 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays all term.

3. The Writing Center

The writing center is helpful for so many of your classes. Whether you're majoring in HDFS, HHS, or Business you will have classes where you'll need to do write-ups, papers, or journaling of some sort. The writing center is located in the Academic Success Center in Waldo Hall room 123. They can help you with everything from the brainstorming process, topic ideas, grammar issues, and writing the perfect concluding paragraph. You can either set up an appointment by calling 541-737-5640 or submit your working draft to the online writing lab here or attend walk-in hours Monday-Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm.

4. The Mole Hole

The Mole Hole is a general chemistry tutoring area located in the Collaborative Learning Center near the information desk and computers on the main floor of the Valley Library here on campus. They begin Monday of week 2 every term and tutors are available Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

5. The Worm Hole

The Worm Hole is the Physics tutoring area available in the Valley Library within the Collaborative Learning Center. To figure out more information about their hours each term call them at 541-737-4631 or stay tuned for their posted schedule here.

6. The Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center is located in Waldo Hall Room 102 and is host to the writing center, study tables, academic coaching, supplemental instruction for difficult classes, ALS classes, and the University Exploratory Studies program.

6. The Beth Ray Center for Academic Support

The Beth Ray Center is similar to the Academic Success Center in that it hosts writing center staff, supplemental instruction study tables, and a computer lab however there are a few things that are different. On top of these resources the Beth Ray Center also has numerous study rooms, open study lounge areas (there is even an area outside to get some fresh air while studying), and unique resources for student athletes. The BRC is open from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information on the supplemental instruction study tables available fall term in the BRC and ASC check this link for the schedule.

7. Private Tutoring

There are many tutoring resources here on campus however they may not always fit into your busy schedule. If that is the case you may want to look into hiring a private tutor. Here are a couple of the lists available to find your perfect fit:

1. Math.

2. Chemistry.

3. Statistics.

4. All subjects:

Beta Alpha Psi is an accounting student organization here on campus. Their members provide tutoring services for students in 200 level accounting classes, meaning BA 211, 213, and 215. They are available all term in Austin Hall 242 Mondays-Fridays 12 pm-6 pm.

10. NetTutor Online

NetTutor is available to you directly from your Canvas or Blackboard course sites. It is a service available to help you with homework and studying and easily accessed through the NetTutor button under the communication tab. You simply type on a virtual whiteboard any questions or problems you have and your virtual tutor helps guide you through them. You can even schedule sessions or ask for an answer to be sent to you at a later time instead if you're in a hurry and be notified by email. There are also opportunities within the dorms to form study groups with your neighbors and study lounges on each floor to organize them in.

12. The Collaborative Learning Center

The Collaborative Learning Center is an area within the Valley Library here on campus host to many different tutoring resources which I have talked more in depth above. They have tutors for chemistry, biology, math, physics, and writing available almost every day of the week along with career and academic success professionals. They have tables for study groups, computers, and many resources available. Their hours vary so stay tuned here for the current term's schedule.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
