Turning 22 Isn't As Lame As It Sounds And Is Just As Significant As Any Other Birthday

As you grow up, you realize that every age has a significance. Whether is a legal, Nobel or parental significance, it mattered based on your age.

Remember when you were 4, probably not, well I know my little cousin who is four and just can't WAIT till he turns 5 and is able to start kindergarten. Monumental times for kids.

Every grade has an age and every sport has a grade/age limit.

I couldn't even perform in the talent show till 5th grade. Which was not the greatest idea, my thriller dance could've been a lot cuter when I was younger.

However, when you get a little older the ages become a tad more significant. I remember the day I got my permit on my 15th birthday or the day I FINALLY got my license on my 16th. On your 17th you can see R rated movies with your friends and your curfew gets extended and then 18 you're an adult.

SO MANY SIGNIFICANCES!

Last year was my 21st birthday and I could finally order a drink, legally. That was a monumental moment in my life and everyone's life.

But now what?

I wait till I'm 65 and I can collect social security? What is significant till then?

What's cool about being 22?

I feel like being 22 means a lot more than people think. When someone tells me they're 20, I think: "oh okay, they're in their 20s, they're older, but not drinking- age-old." When I hear 21, I think: "Okay they're young and 21. They have freedom but they're probably still fresh in the world of being legal."

22 has a different ring to it.

To me, being 22 means that I need to get my life together.

It means that I'm still young but I'm old enough to know better.

It means that I'm thinking about graduating and getting a job in my desired career.

It means I'm still living with my friends but we aren't making freshman decisions anymore, or at least not admitting to them.

It means that all my decisions matter.

It means that you have mature adult conversations but you still totally understand the petty drama your younger friends are dealing with.

SO get out of your mind that you're out of significant years because you're NOT!

If you're turning 22 this year, pull out Tsizzle's Red album, go to track six and play "Feelin 22." She understands what it's like and really hits the nail on the coffin:

"We're happy free confused and lonely at the same time
It's miserable and magical oh yeah
Tonight's the night when we forget about the deadlines, it's time uh oh"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
