With Thanksgiving break fast approaching, it is almost time to relax, enjoy the last bit of warm weather and enjoy some quality binge-worthy shows on Netflix. Below are my top five shows to watch!
1. "House M.D. "
"House M.D.," starring Hugh Laurie, depicts the story of an unorthodox, drug-addicted diagnostician at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. House, a medical genius with poor bedside manner, repeatedly contends with other practicing physicians, patients, and his boss Dr. Lisa Cuddy or “Cuddy.” Throughout the entire length of the show House only has one friend named Dr. James Wilson or “Wilson,” who relentlessly tries to bring House back into the light. As one of the leading diagnosticians, House and his team of Drs. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer), Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) and Eric Foremen (Omar Epps) work as a team under House’s discretion to diagnosis patient with uncommon diseases.
2. "House of Cards"
The Netflix original series, "House of Cards," starring Kevin Spacey tells the story of the brutal, headstrong, and manipulative United States Congressman Frank J. Underwood. In the first season, Underwood is warranted the position of Secretary of State if Underwood supports presidential candidate Garrett Walker. Although Walker ultimately wins the election, after Walker’s presidential inauguration, newly appointed President Walker decides not to give Underwood the position. Underwood, respectfully accepts the disappointing news, but becomes inspired to covertly devise a villainous plan with his wife Clare Underwood (Robin Wright) to take down the Walker Administration and steal the title of President of the United States for himself.
3. "Parks and Recreation"
The show "Parks and Recreation," stars Amy Poehler as the whimsical, benevolent, and humorous Leslie Knope. Knope, a bureaucrat residing in Pawnee, Indiana, works tirelessly improve her beloved town with the help of her nurse friend Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones), and co-workers Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) and Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari). During the first season, Knope attempts to fill in “the pit” and turn the land into a community park. However, Knope runs into a number of issues while trying to build the park, due to other inept government employees, and the rude residents of Pawnee, but she never allows her defeats to bring her down.
4. "Bloodline"
The Netflix original series titled "Bloodline," tells the story of an American family that is forced to confront the demons of their black sheep, eldest brother Danny upon his return home for their parents’ 45th anniversary. Taking place in the Florida Keys, the Rayburn family owns and operates a small “Ma and Pa” hotel in their hometown with the help of three of their four children, John, Meg and Kevin Rayburn. Without their devious brother Danny, the family functioned peacefully, however, the peace quickly dissipates as Danny’s returns admonishes to disclose the Rayburn family’s disgraceful secrets and dark past.
5. "Orange is the New Black"
The novel "Orange is the New Black" by Piper Kerman is the inspiration behind the Netflix original series "Orange is the New Black." Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) a normal 30-something living a good life with her fiancé until her past finally catches up with her when is sentenced to a women’s prison for a 10-year-old drug charge. Similarly to the novel, the shows depicts Chapmen’s time behind bars while she tries to make friends and ultimately be reunited with her fiancé. While in prison she meets some incredible women and encounters life-changing experiences.
