Going into Freshman year of college, many different people of all different kinds loved giving me "advice" about freshman year. They told me all sorts of stories that had me unpacking my suitcase and boxes leaving my body shaky on move in day, most of them were not what you would call accurate. I'm here to address the damage.
1. Your roommate, probably, most likely won't actually kill you.
This is a big one: don't be scared of your roommate. Most of the time people are normal, or at least "live-with-able." Breathe.
2. The freshman 15 is real, seriously.
So easy to gain, so easy not to gain. Hit up the gym, go for a walk around campus. Don't eat fries with every meal (if you can.)
3. The hardest part of going away to school is, going to school.
Nobody is there anymore to tell you "get up you're going to be late." The hardest part of college is, well, college.
4. There will not be a party every night
Sorry.
5. Netflix will become your copying mechanism for stressful weeks
You think you watch a lot of Netflix now high school grad? You just wait.
6. Your parents really will call you what seems 56772 times a week (love you mom and dad)
Pick up the phone.
7. You will miss your hometown
I know if doesn't feel like it right now, but it will hit you and being homesick couldn't be more normal.
8. Making friends in college is a cakewalk compared to high school
Seriously, my best friends walked right up to me.
9. If you don't study you will fail.
Really, pick up the book. You did pay $300 after all.
10. It WILL be the best time of your life
As long as you make it that way.
Don't stress. Good luck. Time to fly from the nest.
