Three Truths Competitive People Understand

I really can not help being so competitive.

If you're anything like me you might be super competitive. Now I'm not saying that being competitive is a good quality, but I am also not saying it's a bad one either. I had a teacher once that would make sure that nothing she did was a competition in any way shape or form. I remember her always saying that making situations into competitions was inappropriate and childish. In my opinion, I personally do not think that statement was true. At least in my experience when I know there is a friendly competition I tend to have more motivation. Ever since I can remember, I have been competitive not to the point where I have to be better than other people, but I just would always enjoy winning rather than losing. When I was younger and people would tell me that it's not about whether you win or lose not how you play the game, I could never relate to that. As I got older I realized that the statement was true and you don't have to win at everything in life but I'm not going to lie winning still feels amazing.

1. You turn everything into a competition.

Whether my friends and I are having a heated game of Monopoly or we are just casually strolling down the sidewalk, I find a way to make it a competition. Currently my friends and I are obsessed with the game "what are the odds" where you make up something that the other person has to do and someone counts down. If you and the other person say the same number they have to do whatever you bet them for. I always have lots of fun but there's always some kind competition because I can't help myself. I also just have so much fun with competitions that stopping just seems like it would be very boring.

2. You find friends that are also very competitive (and games get heated real fast).

I have this rule with a few of my friends "whatever is said in a game stays in that game." I highly suggest that rule if you are playing with your other really competitive friends because if you have played with competitive people before, you know as well as I do that some phrases that are said should not be taking seriously, if they were said in the duration of a game.

3. You know exactly what you are good at and you play it all the time.

For me, the game that I am really good at is Monopoly. I absolute love that game. That's the game I could just sit and play for hours which is good because as you might know Monopoly takes forever. I can remember one instance where I and a few of my friends were playing monopoly and we played almost four games we had started at 10 that night and ended at almost three in the morning. I would have to keep playing if it wasn't for the fact that my friends were completely over it at that point.

Being competitive is very fun in my opinion it keeps me on my toes and keeps me motivated.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
