Nursing school is not what everyone thinks. Nursing school has many positives and negatives. Nursing school will push you to your breaking points. Here are a few things that actually happen during nursing school that all nursing students will understand:
1. Perfect grades don't exist.
Having a grade point average of 4.0 in high school was nothing, but to get that 4.0 during nursing school is a challenge. If you want that perfect grade point average, then you are going to spend your whole time studying while you are at school.
2. Studying for test and still barely passing.
You can spend days or weeks preparing for a nursing exam and think that you got an eighty percent or higher. But when the test get handed back you realized that you barely got a passing grade.
3. All the mental breakdowns.
Constantly having many mental breakdowns every week. The reasons for the mental breakdowns vary. The breakdowns will come from finding out grades, not understanding a topic, having multiple quizzes or exam during the same week, or waiting for your midterm or final grades to be posted.
4. Running on barely any sleep.
You do not have time to sleep because you are constantly studying. You rather study than get the recommended hours of sleep that you need.
5. Having no social life.
Learning that you do not have much time to socialize with your friends because you are locked in your room or the library studying. Also, learning that with being in nursing school that you are giving up your social life to become a nurse.
6. It's all about passing.
It does not matter if you pass the class with an A, but that you passed the class with the grade that you need. It's tough not passing your classes with As or Bs, but knowing passing your nursing class with the lowest grade that you need still makes you happy. With all the challenges that come from nursing school, it's all worth it.
7. Falling in love with your major.
With all the struggles that every nursing student goes through, the love for the field of nursing becomes deeper. Each class that you take, you realize that this program is for you.
