I don't pretend to know what is going on inside of the Donald's head, but now that he is the presumptive Republican nominee for president, he will eventually have to pick a running mate. The Trump Camp has leaked a couple of names, which I will get into in a minute, but the list of potential candidates is as long and diverse as I've ever seen. Let's get right into it.
Ben Carson:
This one makes absolutely zero sense to me. Trump is shaky on political affairs and adding Carson to the ticket would make it the least political tandem to ever run for president and veep. Plus, Dr. Carson is running Trump's search for a running mate, so naming himself would be just a little too Dick Cheney for my taste.
Chris Christie:
Donald's first establishment endorser wouldn't be a terrible pick for a running mate, if it weren't for his quick temper and unfavorable policy beliefs. Plus, do you really want another angry north-easterner on the ticket?
Sarah Palin:
HA. Haha. That's laughable.
Marco Rubio:
While Rubio and Trump really went after each other in the primary debates and campaigns, they would make an interesting pairing on the GOP ticket. Trump says he wants to "unify the party" and Marco Rubio is the person who could help him do that. Rubio had a fierce following, and bringing that with him could only help the ticket as well.
Newt Gingrich:
The former Speaker of the House is apparently the leader in the clubhouse, according to some rumor mills up in the Beltway. He is a soft-spoken man, which would counteract the bravado that Trump exudes out of every pore in his body. He is also a career politician, which would help Trump with his policy weakness. It is one of those moves that could either turn out brilliantly, or utterly inexplicable and stupid.
Those five candidates very accurately reflect the diversity of the pool of candidates. Some other candidates include the likes of Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Rick Scott (HA!), Nikki Haley and Rob Portman.
I would end this article with my pick for who Donald Trump will choose as his running mate, but I honestly could not tell you who I think he is going to pick because he is such a wild card. I believe that the smart pick would be a career politician that would help him bring the party together and also give him some policy knowledge and political knowhow, but who knows.
