This past week, Trump signed a regulation that destructs many environmental regulations former President Obama put in place. This isn’t a shock for many of us who disagree with President Trump and his decisions, but this time there might be extreme consequences.
To review: At the EPA, Trump signed an executive order that curbed the federal government’s enforcement of climate change regulations. This executive order was the Trump administration’s way of putting an end to the war on coal. Trump is now taking steps to lift the restrictions on energy to reverse government intrusion -- to “cancel job killing regulations.”
There’s a reason why there have been so many regulations on coal. Coal not only causes problems for human health, but also the environment (all other living things). Trump apparently doesn’t care about either.
The order is entitled “The executive order promoting energy independence and economic growth” and this will work to reverse former President Obama’s clean power plan, and a number of other regulations having to do with the environment. Because screw the environment, right?
This is a massive reversal of how our federal government has been approaching the environment. The Clean Power Plan was a big part of the Obama administration’s entry into the Paris Climate Agreement, and Trump threw all of it away. No surprises there.
Former President Obama was a leader in the global effort to address climate change. The U.S. was at the forefront of promoting clean power and renewable energy. Under the Trump Administration, however, there has been a complete 180 degree change in how we view climate change. This is serious whether people want to admit it or not. Climate change is quickly beginning to affect our world in negative ways and we can’t afford to speed up the process.
This attack on climate change and rules preventing pollution are Trump’s prime targets, which could lead to dire consequences. If you have done your research, you know how destructive climate change is and how much we can’t afford to let it pick up an even more rapid pace.
Animal species are dying at a heightened pace. The Amazon Rainforest is dwindling. There are larger and more intense droughts. Sea water levels are rising. All of this will be detrimental to us and future generations.
We have to prioritize our planet’s future. What about this aren’t we getting?
