It seems as though Presidential Candidate Donald Trump cannot get enough of the media's attention, as he unveils yet another shocking element of his presidential plan. Further seemingly trying to separate Americans, citizens, permanent residents, refugees, and visa holders alike, Trump unveiled proposed plans that would further marginalize certain groups within the United States.
Trump's distorted views of Arabs and Muslims further exacerbated the rising tensions and frustrations between Trump and his opposition. He recommended a plan that many find disturbing and unwarranted. Trump contended that all Muslims residing in the United States should register with a national government database and to carry identification cards.
This is troubling because Muslims and other minority groups leave their countries out of fear or religious or political persecution, and Trump essentially would be stripping them of their newly gained rights and freedoms, something many have dreamed of for so long.
It seems as though he's doing this to have a head count on the Muslim population living in the country. Trump cannot represent my America because my America exemplifies diversity and embodies multiculturalism. According to him, Muslims are ISIS affiliates, and the United States should be on the constant defense -- being suspicious of ordinary, peaceful individuals.
Disheartening is an understatement because to be diminished down to an identification card and a national database means that my religion has become my defining point. Thousands of Muslims, both Americans and immigrants alike, have lived tranquilly in communities across the United States, becoming neighbors and friends.
Trump cannot represent my America because this country always had her arms open and welcoming of whoever stepped on her soil. Trump cannot represent my America because his ignorance has blinded him from seeing the world through a lens other than that of a millionaire's. Trump cannot represent my America because my America does not stand for his ideologies.
