Texas is the best state in America, and I’m sure the 27 million people living here would agree. No other state can compare.

From the flat lands across the panhandle, to the rolling hills, and deep Palo Duro Canyon, to our great Texas BBQ (its simply the best). The State Fair of Texas? None can compare. And nothing beats the taste of Dr. Pepper! We have the greatest country music legend George Strait proudly embracing his Texan roots through his music.

In the words of Gary P. Nunn, “Well it’s not just a state, it’s a whole state of mind...”

Here are 11 signs you're a true Texan:

1. You love High school football.

Everything is done bigger and better in the Lone Star State, and that includes high school football. From football stadiums that fit thousands of fans, to TV shows, like "Friday Night Lights" being based on Texas High School football.

2. You can't wait for the State Fair.

When it comes to the State Fair, no one does it bigger and better than Texas.

3. Many of your best memories are made at a Whataburger.

Whether its a post football game meal, or after a fun night of partying. There's nothing more Texan than finding your way to a Whataburger.

4. Never passing up on a stop at a Buc-ee's.

This Texas gas station has almost anything you need for a road trip, from beef jerky to drinks and snacks.

5. You've experienced a state wide shut down due to some flurries .

When it come to snow, whether an inch or a couple of flurries, Texas tends to shut down.

6. Experiencing all four seasons in a day.

Whether its sunny, rainy, or a snow storm, we've all experienced it all at once.

7. Driving for hours and still being in Texas.

If you're ever on a road trip to another state, then you know it takes quite a while to leave the state.

8. Blue Bell is the only ice cream choice.

You hate it when someone offers you blue bunny, because you know this is the only acceptable ice cream.

9. 'Ya'll and "Fixin' to" are parts of your vocabulary.

Texans use ya'll and fixin' to in many different forms. Not one Texan says "I'm going to" instead we say "Fixin' to," that's just how we do it.

10. You always stop in West for kolaches.

Czech stop is a staple in West. Baked goods, delicious fruit and sausage kolaches.

11. Even if you travel the world, you still know there's no place like home.

No matter what you do in life, or where you go, you know there's no place like Texas.

Whether Texas born, Texas raised, or your family has been here since we were a part of Mexico, we have a number of things that unite us as Texans.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
