Sarah Doerffler is the girl you see on campus with a smile on her face no matter what. Honestly, I don't know how. When I met her, I was like, "She's always so happy, busy, and fit. How does she do it?!"
I had no idea who she was or anything when I asked to interview her my freshman year for a radio broadcast. She ended up living on the same floor as me and she became one of my best friends. Sarah is involved in the sorority Chi Omega, a full time student studying dietetics, an avid runner, and she even has time for a social life. I have continually wondered how she stays sane because I can barely handle all of my work and maintain a smile on my face.
She studies so much, when does sorority involvement come into play? She absolutely loves Chi Omega and she is passionate about being involved this year, especially because she has received her very own little. But she is an incredibly motivated person when it comes to making time for keeping up with her personal fitness and nutrition.
She has pushed me to become a runner (something I never thought I would be). But when coming to college, she knew that her diet would be changing slightly her freshmen year and she would no longer be on sports teams. Because of this, she made the decision to stay motivated and continue to work out.
Sarah says, "I think the most important thing is time management. You have to have your priorities straight. When you come to college you aren't on a set schedule and you are given the opportunity to have much more freedom. From there, you have to decide what your priorities are and what is important to you."
Sarah has always been driven to succeed but in the end, she wants to be able to enjoy her college years as well. From being friends with Sarah, I have learned so much more about the "college experience." It's all about what you make of it, whether you lose sight of your dream career and get lost in the party or study hard, maintain the grades, and learn how to be social in the process. Time management would definitely be the best way to describe how to figure it all out.
In the long run, Sarah would like to focus on Sports Nutrition and work with athletes. In the summertime, Sarah coaches a swim team with younger children to show them what it takes to succeed and learn more about the importance of fitness. I would have to say Sarah is one of the most motivated hard-working people I know. It gives me that hope when I become busy and think that it's too much, I just remember that she works even harder and she still manages to spend time with her friends.
The moral to the interview/story is: Time Management. It can make or break your college years. You just have to really think of what you want in life and shoot for the stars. I know I do.
