When I was younger I would go shopping for clothes with my mom and pick out colorful pieces that were well-suited for my age. However, I found myself cleaning out my closet far too regularly. Shirts that were once in style had become "so 2007." Then when I got to high school, I adopted my sister's style of predominately black clothing and never looked back. Not only is it flattering to all shapes and sizes, it's timeless. Here are some of the reasons I believe that black is the most important color in fashion:
1. Black is classic.
Black never gets old. Why buy something that might go out of style in a year when you can buy something that will be in style forever? It is both casual and elegant. It looks great at any age, on any skin tone, with any hair color, no matter your shape or size. Unless you're outside in the sweltering heat, chances are you will never regret wearing black.
2. It gives you a signature look.
Once you start wearing only black people will start to notice when you stray from this newfound "dress code." Black on black is badass. It's a fierce style to be known for and you pull it off damn well.
3. There is nothing more chic than a little black dress.
You know I'm right. They make a big deal about owning a little black dress for a reason.
4. It makes a statement without trying.
Who are you more likely to notice, the girl wearing black head-to-toe or the girl in the baby blue dress? Definitely the girl wearing all black. It calls attention without trying. Black isn't obnoxiously loud, it's classy.
5. Orange is NOT the new black.
Whoever thought that would be a funny name for a TV show thought wrong. Black is the new black. It can never be replaced.
6. It is both mysterious and intimidating.
People may look at you as unapproachable, but once they get to know you they'll be surprised. On the outside you may seem like you're a dark soul, but on the inside you may be the most kindhearted human being. Allow your style to make you mysterious. Let people wonder what you're really like.
7. Everything matches black.
If you're anything like me, you're too lazy to roll out of bed and find a presentable outfit in the morning. However, when your wardrobe is all black you'll almost always look presentable. You might have spilled your coffee all over your shirt this morning, but no one can see it on black. It makes getting ready that much easier.
People may question your fashion sense,
but trust me, you look fabulous
