"Friends. How many of us have them? Ones we can depend on. Friends!"
An iconic song about friendship that makes one wonder, "Do I have true friends?"
Through the years, people enter our lives while others leave, but, somehow, they seem to all leave an everlasting effect on our lives. Whether their good or bad, we've all experienced friendship. There are many types of friends, but we're not always sure who's really going to stay in our lives, but we take the chance anyway. Telling them things we'd never tell anyone else, just to lose them in a few years.
Friends are meant to come into your life for different reasons, yet they're not always the best reasons. There our jealous friends who seek to ruin people's lives, but there are also friends who want nothing but the best for you. The hardest part about friendship is figuring out who's real and who isn't.
Honestly, it can be impossible, but time tells all. A person's true colors will seep through their skin and change a person's perspective of them.
Without friends what would school be like? Would parties even exist?
Some of us are lucky enough to meet friends who stay down no matter what. Through thick and thin; they're always there for you, even if ya'll don't speak every day. As one matures so does their friendships. The older you get the less time you have for friends, but a true friend understands that. They know you're trying to better yourself just like they're doing for themselves.
It's not about who contacts who first, but who's there when you need them the most. We all have people who are there for every shining moment in our lives, but what about the bad ones? There aren't many people who are willing to be there through the stress, drama and tragic and those type of people aren't the real ones.
Friends are the people you choose to be around, so there's always an option to walk away. Sometimes it needs to be done because they only bring negativity into the life you live.
The scary thing about friendship is losing it. Friendships can last a lifetime, while some last eight years or maybe a month. It's not about who's around the longest, but who's been the realest. Realness means different things to different people, which is why we all have different types of friendships.
There is no friendship that is the same, but there all meaningful.
Sometimes we lose friends that meant the world to us. From hanging out every day to not even speaking when you see each other in public. You're not sure when the friendship went downhill, but there's no going back. You'd never wish bad on these type of people because they were once someone who was there for you.
I've been there before. Meeting a diverse group of talented people that changed my life forever. Two photographers, a singer, a producer, a rapper, a poet, an artist and a journalist all came together as one group. We called ourselves "The Homies," and with all our talents put together, there was no stopping us. But with time and growth, we decided to go our own ways. A friendship like no other, but all good things come to an end. The Homies will always have a special place in my heart. They're the friends who can never be replaced. You know those friendships you wish lasted a lifetime, but just couldn't
But friendships teach us life lessons. Maybe it's how to talk to a girl or how to keep cool at a party in a room full of people you don't know. Friends are the perfect people to confine in at any time of the day or night. They're like the family we would have picked if we got to choose.
How many friends have you gained and lost since the age of eight? Too many to count, right? That doesn't mean somethings wrong with you, you're just living life. A life that sometimes takes us on a ride, and we just have to sit back and try to control the wheel as best as we can.
"Friends. Is a word we use every day. Most the time we use it in the wrong way. Now you can look the word up, again and again. But the dictionary doesn't know the meaning of friends."
Friends are a unique way of how we deal with life. Without friendship how much worst would the world be?
Hopefully, no one will ever find out.
So, say it with me one last time, "Friends. How many of us have them?"
