You're A True Friend

An open letter to one of my best friends.

Hannah Montana once sang the lyrics "You're a true friend you're here till the end. You pull me aside
when something ain't right talk with me now and into the night, til it's alright again. You're a true friend". And this friend is one of the best friends that I could ever ask for. She is my "wife", my "sister" and my ground. I go to her for anything at anytime and she is always there for me. She may do the typical things that any best friend, or at least a good friend, would do: but she has been here for me since the sixth grade and has not left since.

Dear true friend,

You are my other soulmate. You are the other half to me that knows what is wrong and how to fix it. You are the one who can tame my anger, sadness, and everything in between. My life would not be the same without you.

We do not talk to each other often anymore, nor do we see each other nearly as much as before. But it is said that real friends can go through months without talking to each other, and will remain just as close. And with you, I think it is most definitely true. Thank you for always having a shoulder for me to lean on or someone to vent to when I am upset.

I cannot imagine a world without our shenanigans and machinations. I love our typical white-girl Starbucks run and our random adventures. I miss our sleepovers and making posters with you. But I know that those experiences will have always brought us closer.

You are one of the closest, and best, friends that I have had the chance to grow up with. Whether it being you keeping me in line or finding ways to support me or cheer me up regardless of the circumstances, you always know the right things to say and do. You and I can talk for hours about silly little things or go to Plaster Fun Time, paint, and do subtle things. You are a one-of-a-kind best friend who has been there for me since the beginning of middle school. Then, we tied the knot in eight grade, making you my "wife".

I can never, and will never, be able to find another soulmate like you. Miley said it best as Hannah Montana: you're a true friend.

Love always,

your sister, wife, and weird-ass friend.

No matter what the distance is, no matter who they befriend later in life, a true friend will always stick by your side. They are your best friend, your weirdest companion, and often times: your other soulmate (if not your only soulmate). They are the friends who pull you aside when something isn't right and talks with you all night. And nobody can ever replace that true friend; because they are here until the very end.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
