Trouble In Our Own Backyard

World peace? Let's start with our own country.

Trouble In Our Own Backyard
Victor's Movie Reviews

For the past few months, the United States has had many issues with attacks in our own backyards. Just recently, three people died, including the shooter, from a theater shooting in Louisiana. ”There’s nothing to believe that there was any kind of motive," said Col. Michael Edmonson of the Louisiana State Police told CNN News.

Usually when people point out places that are considered unsafe, they think of the Middle East or North Korea, but has anyone considered our own country as being unsafe. Coming from a family where it is rather rare that my dad would ever let me go out of the country, I feel like as though no matter where anyone goes you aren’t safe.

Recently, a video was posted on OAN, One American News Network, where the reporter, as it says in the title of the video, “She Rips Obama To Shreds With This Epic Monologue & Says What We've All Been Thinking.”

Within this video, the Tomi Lahren goes on a monologue on how she was talking to her husband and had told him that he is more safe in Iraq then he is coming home.

After the shooting of four Marines on July 16, who were in a military recruitment center, I feel as though many people believe that it may be safer overseas. Even though you are being shot at there, with everything that has been going on, you could easily be shot here.

In North Las Vegas, Nevada, according to ABC 13 , a man has decided to watch guard in front of the Army recruitment center, since the men that are inside are not able to hold firearms themselves. Supposedly, at one point there were 12 people sitting out side standing guard to keep our military men safe.

Each year, there is some sort of devastating tragedy that America goes through, such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, The Dark Knight Shootings, and then the rampaging in the streets of Baltimore. No matter where anyone goes there is chaos. From an article done in September 2013 by David Pegg, there are at least six out of the 25 listed “Most Violent Places in the World” that is a US city. Two of them are in the top 10.

I believe that everyone would like to think of America as a safe place, but with everything that has been occurring we are slowly starting to dip into a difficult portion of not being safe because of our own people. Americans have been hurting other Americans and those that come here to experience the place that we get to call home.

The American dream has almost become the American nightmare with the way that our country has been viewing certain issues and difficulties. Are all of these responsibilities the governments fault? Or is it the people’s fault for wanting to point a finger and blame some sort of image of anything that could cause unhappiness in this imperfect world?

I know that many people would probably go against me in what I am saying at the moment, but when was the last time you ever felt safe? Even in your own home? We all work hard, we all try to continue living our lives, and we all have opposing opinions on a situation that makes it hard for people to see both sides.

There is strength in the things that we do as Americans. We have won both World Wars and have battled our way to become our own free independent country. We have had many attacks from other countries such as the Boston bombing and 9/11 that we picked ourselves up from. Do we still mourn the loss of our people, of course.

It shouldn’t take an anniversary of a devastating tragedy or the 4th of July to come around for us to feel like we’re Americans. We should be all together united as one, to have the ability to bring ourselves together and as Lahren said, “strike fear into other countries.” If we can’t have peace in our own backyard then why are we sending troops to try and create peace somewhere else?

Everyone has a place that they call home, but every place that you call home could sooner or later be considered a place of misery and terror. It is hard to imagine peace on Earth; especially since once you walk out that door who knows if you’re coming back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
