Tropical House Songs To Deal With Winter

It's currently cold out in this place we call central Pennsylvania, and the first snow that happened this weekend made me really really miss summer. I am really not a snow person or a person who is a fan of the cold. I don't like hot beverages, and the cold makes it too hard to get out of bed and wear anything besides sweatpants and a hoodie. Seeing me rock flannel pants is a common sight as soon as it is under 45 degrees.

So, because I miss the sunshine, the heat, the beach, wearing shorts, and being able to enjoy my iced coffee outside, I am going to share with you a sick little list of tropical house songs that make my heart happy and make my toes dance.

If you are unfamiliar with tropical house, it is basically EDM meets tropical vibes. So here are some good vibes and sick beats coming your way...

Shaggy - It Wasn´t Me (LosGarcia "Tropical Sunset" Remix)

I played this for my roommate because we just jammed to the original song at a party this past weekend, and she didn't recognize it at the beginning before the words started, as the intro is different -- although the intro is also sick and I love it -- but once it started, it was easily recognizable as a really good remix of an already great jam. I am not sure if I can call it a classic, but it came out in 2000 so it is pretty close! Shaggy already is a reggae-pop artist so the song already does have a lot of tropical vibes, but I like the more electronic sounds added, plus how it is generally more complex in the remix. Overall, 10/10 would recommend for your next party.

Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing (Kygo Remix)

Kygo is hands down my favorite tropical house artist, and may be my favorite EDM artist/DJ ever. Now, "Sexual Healing" is actually a classic as it came out in 1982. Marvin Gaye also is a reggae artist, so this song also leads to a sick tropical house song. This song is much faster than the original and definitely easier to dance to. I don't think I could hear this song without at least dancing a little bit, because I started boogieing a bit when I was listening to it as I studied macroeconomics -- definitely brought some sunshine to the dark cloud that macro brings!!

Zedd | Selena Gomez - I Want You To Know [Jbonax Remix]

So this might come off as a little biased because JBonax is a good friend of mine, but whether or not he was the artist, I can guarantee I would love it anyway. If I didn't know him I may have never found it though which is why you should click the link and share it with all your friends. I personally do not love the original and definitely prefer the remix. It's faster and the added beats in the back are sick, plus that drop is fire.

MASHUP | Closer / Cold Water - The Chainsmokers/Justin Bieber/Halsey/Major Lazer/MØ

Closer is currently my shower song, as it is with the help of that song, that I take four minute and twenty one second showers, and perform a not so killer concert while I rush off to class in the morning. And then Cold Water is also a song I love, even though I thought I swore off JB long ago. I guess I haven't because this song is a song you could party too, but also swing your head to as you type up a paper. DJ Pyromania blends the song perfectly, and does not let either song overtake the other one, and instead creates a harmony of sick beats ;)

Bastille - Flaws (Deep Chills Remix)

Last but certainly not least, this song is generally slower than the rest of the list, so while you certainly could dance to this tune, I love it for chilling on my bed, typing, and just relaxing with friends. Bastille is already great, but this remix has some added tropical beats with just really add a lot to the song.

So, now when you want to tan instead of building a snowman, sit back, close your eyes, and think of coconuts, sand, and sun, when jamming out to these tunes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
