Well, 2019 has been going well and I am just taking it one step at a time. I wanted to try something new and see what all of the hype was about in terms of going vegan.
This is coming from someone who wouldn't even DARE giving up a pizza for a flaky salad. And speaking of a salad, I can't eat it without SOME type of protein (well, chicken of course). But that's not the point.
I realized that we now live in a world where everyone is going vegan, everyone is staying fit and losing weight. That means more restaurants are creating alternative ways to allow you to enjoy your favorite meaty foods, but in reality, their meats are basically VEGAN. They'll use tofu or jack fruit instead of actual meat, and they can make it taste the same as an actual burger. That's actually pretty cool. Plus, I've tried vegan-style food before and it wasn't that bad.
So when the new year hit, I was mainly eating out at vegan restaurants. Most of the foods I had were fried food and some were just salads I made at home. It was also hard because I was spending the week at my grandparent's house in Florida.
The first four days were rough, honestly. Besides the fried food, I was also eating avocado rolls, and even rice and peas. One day, I tried to make imitation chicken nuggets and they were a whole flop.
I was starting to become miserable because I didn't actually prepare.
In fact, I was spending a lot of money because I didn't have these items at my house. I was also eating nothing but carbs, and felt like the whole week was making me gain weight.
So on day seven, I broke the streak and ate Chipotle, and it was so good. Sorry, couldn't help it.
I realized that being vegan wasn't for me. I didn't give up because I was tempted by meat, I gave up because it just didn't fit my lifestyle and I was super miserable. I'm still going to eat healthier and even try some of the vegan foods that were actually good. But cutting out meat was super hard. If I had to do something like that again, I would be a pescatarian since I love fish and could still consume dairy products.
Plus, to be vegan, it's important to know WHY. Don't go vegan because you want to lose weight. You can still eat meat and lose the pounds. You can still love animals and have your meat too, in my opinion.
I can officially say I tried the vegan wave and it's not for me, but the imitation burgers I had were actually pretty good. Honestly, I'd do a little bit more research before I make the change.
