It appears that hate and violence are the majority in our nation, because the media does not report on the good that is happening in our country. Love and unity is not a popular story that draws viewers in, so the media will not put a spotlight on the Americans — black, white, brown, yellow, or red — who are coming together in love, peace, and unity.
Last week as I was writing in my prayer journal, I wrote a poem about the Dallas tragedy, but more specifically I wrote it to remind America who we are as a nation; a nation of immigrants, a melting pot of multi-cultural backgrounds. America became a great nation because of our differences and through the integrity of those who did not give in to violence.
Thank you all — white, black, brown, mixed and officers for what you do for our city. Thank you for sacrificing your lives for complete strangers. What you do will never be forgotten despite the hate that is said against you. Know that there are many who stand with you, hurt with you, and pray with you. Don't give up this fight.
Shots rang out in the night
No one wanted to be in this fight,
But here we are and there is no place to hide.
Can you hear the people's cries?
Can you see the families broken ties?
Can you see the shattered worlds?
Can you see the aching hearts that are no different than yours?
We have different skin, yes that is true,
but who said that was ever the issue?
We are all different through our own eyes,
so we have to look a little harder on the inside!
We all feel the need for love,
We all feel that life can be tough,
We all feel the medicine of laughter shared,
We all have memories that lasted longer than the people we loved.
We all have dreams bigger than us,
We all need someone to encourage us to not give up,
We all need someone to be our shoulder,
We all need someone to dry our tears,
We all need someone to walk by our side,
We all need someone to hold us through the night
and to have someone who will stay till the sun's rise.
We all know that the journey can be lonely,
but what keeps us going is the love of our family.
If we all can feel the same things too,
It doesn't matter if you're pink, yellow, red, or blue.
So let's put down our angry fists and picket signs,
and remember those who give their lives.
America, remember where we all came from...
God Bless America
-Dallas Tragedy, July 7, 2016
“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:14-19 ESV
