I Asked 21 People What Their MySpace Song Was

For most of us millennials, 2005 through 2008 was a rough time. Those middle school, early high school years were met with an awful lot of angst, braces, and odd fashion choices. Lucky for us, we had the perfect outlet to express all of this. Thank you, Tom -- without MySpace I would have never been able to post pictures with way too much eyeliner on, or tell all of my middle school friends who I was having a sleepover with that particular weekend. But most of all, thank you, Tom, for giving us the option to have songs on our profiles. It was through these songs that we could truly prove to our friends how cool we were.

After asking about 21 people what their first MySpace song was, I have come to a few conclusions about these pivotal times in our lives. EDM was unheard of, and the whole emo/punk thing was really cool. Back in the day, we basically relied solely on punk and rap -- and by rap, I mean Chris Brown and T-Pain. If the song was featured on "Laguna Beach" or "The Real World", it was most likely somebody’s MySpace song right after. Here’s a few of the best answers I received after asking, well basically everyone I could think of. To be fair, I’ll go ahead and say my first MySpace song was “Helena” by My Chemical Romance, and I am not ashamed of it.

1. “That was so long ago. Big Girls Don’t Cry?... I think.” Taylor.

2. “It was either Sublime’s Santeria or something by Sum41. I basically just copied my brother’s music.” Sarah.

3. "I’m sure it Run It by Chris Brown was on my page at some point or Bring Em Out by T.I.” Matt.

4. "Baby-doll by Pat Greene.” Katie.

5. "Move Along – All American Rejects.” Adam.

6. "Come on Get Higher by Matt Nathanson. I thought to myself, “No one else knows this song so I’m gonna be cool.” Kirstin.

7. "I changed it all the time. But probably something by Lil Wayne.” Cathleen.

8. "No Rain’ by Blind Melon.” Cameron.

9. "Good Life” by Kanye West. I hope he remembers his true fans when he’s prez.” Anna.

10. “I remember one of them being “Buy You a Drank” by T- Pain.” D’Eja.

11. "The General” by Dispatch.” Harrison.

12. "Photoshoot by Gucci Mane…. Then “Hos” by Pepper.” Megan.

13. "I honestly couldn’t remember. I know at one point it was ‘Hollaback Girl’ by Gwen Stefani.” Rachel.

14. “Probably something by Fergie….” Sammie.

15. "I used random ghetto songs from rappers in my hometown tbh.” Lexi.

16. (Doesn’t bat an eye) “Candy Shop.” Bryn.

17. "Show Stopper” by Danity Kane.” Destiny.

18. "Summer Love” by Justin Timberlake. "Me and my best friend fought over it cause she wanted to make it her MySpace song but I told her she wasn’t allowed to copy me.” Cristina.

19. "Lips of an Angel by Hinder.” Wes.

20. "Misery Business by Paramore.” Tanya.

21. "All Summer Long by Kid Rock.” Erin.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
