What Tri Sigma Has Done For Me

And Why I'm Thankful

What Tri Sigma Has Done For Me
Morgan Reep

"Sisterhood is so many things. It's a warm smile on a cold and rainy day, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello... It's all that a good and lasting friendship is, only better. It's treasured. It's sacred. It's knowing that there will always be someone there for you. It's dreams shared and goals achieved. It's counting on others and being counted on. It is real.. It is Tri Sigma!"

Never in my life did I think I would ever be in a sorority. I used to think "Who would really pay for friends like that and be okay with it?" But I couldn't have been farther from the truth. Being a part of Tri Sigma has helped me both grow as a person in so many ways, as well as given me friendships that will last a lifetime.

Personally, my interest in being in a sorority started when a friend of mine said that a co-worker was trying to get her to join. I thought it was really cool, and I wanted to see what it was like. So, I went to Meet The Greeks the fall semester of my freshman year to try to find out what it was really all about. Later on though after chickening out and not going through formal recruitment, I was invited to an open sisterhood. After that, I knew that this was something that was perfect for me. The point is though, that you'll never know unless you try.

First of all, being a part of Tri Sigma has done a lot for me including the fact that it introduced me to an amazing group of girls. Each and every one of them bring something different into our Epsilon Beta chapter and I could not be more thankful to know them all. Whether it's struggling through long nights preparing for finals like last semester, (thanks again to Morgan and Adi for saving my butt in Intro to Chem, I love you both), or another sister offering me a piece of advice when times are tough, I know I can count on them to be there for me no matter what happens.

Tri Sigma has also helped change me as a person. It has taught me that it's okay to voice my opinions, and it also made me break out of my shell and not be so shy anymore. Even more so, it has taught me to become a giver, meaning that one gets exactly what one gives to the sorority. Being a member of Tri Sigma is so much more than saying "Yeah, I want to be in a sorority" and paying your dues. It's about hard work, determination, and the patience that you have to have in order to get everything accomplished. I can honestly say I don't know what I would do without Tri Sigma.

But to freshmen or anyone else considering rushing: give it a shot! It could prove to be exactly what you are looking for in the midst of all the hustle and bustle that college brings. I promise you even though being in a sorority is a lot of responsibility, it's completely worth it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
