How to Travel Amtrak

How to Travel Amtrak

I recently went on a trip to Chicago and it was the best time. Even if it was short lived. But the longest part of our trip was the getting there. Now I'm not complaining, mainly because it was definitely worth it to travel long distance by train. But I think there are somethings that anyone who is thinking of or going to travel by Amtrak train should think about.

  1. Be courteous of others

I feel like this is a given, but some people don't get it sometimes. Please use headphones if you are going to use any technology. If you are up and functioning before everyone else, keep the noise level down

2. Be prepared

This is such a big deal. I drink tons of water so on my way back I brought 2 power aids and 2 large water bottles. Mainly to avoid being incredibly thirsty. Buying drinks is fine on the train but I knew a small water bottle would not cut it for me. If you know you get cold easily, bring a blanket. Or if you are going somewhere cold, then use your coat.

3. Bring entertainment

This somewhat goes along with being prepared. If you know the trip is going to be long, then bring something for you to keep from being bored. Some trains don't have internet service, so using phones or apps that really should be used with internet can be a bit tough.

3. Travel buddy

If you are traveling with someone, it would be a good idea to try to talk to them on the trip. Unless both of you have a mutual understanding that you don't need to be talking all the time. When I went with my friend she slept most of the time and I was doing my own thing.

4. Try traveling light

I think with airlines it's easier to check a bag, but if you do so with Amtrak it arrives after you do. So by traveling light, you are able to just carry your stuff off of the train. As a note, if your carry on fits for a plane then it is a good size for a train carry on.

Enjoy! Some people can think of two days as a lot. And it is. But if you have the patience just enjoy watching the scenery go by and let your mind be distracted.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
