Let's be honest. Preparing for college is an extensive process, regardless if its your first day on campus or your last day. It is way more then the dorm room and apartment check list, class registration, and the HU run around. Being the new student on a college campus is not just physical change—it is also mental and the typical advice sometimes just won't cut it. Everyone says never skip class, go to your teachers' office hours and get a head start on homework, but what about outside of the class room? These are just a few suggestions to help the transition.
When you first get to campus
1. It's important to get out there. Embrace this new change in your life, get involved! College would be a waste of time and money if you don't take advantage of all opportunity presented.
During your tenure
2. Make friends! Good college friendships can last a life time. Speak up in your classrooms and join social clubs to meet new people.
3. Be yourself! While having friends is great nothing is worse than bad friends. The best way to avoid a bad friendship is to be yourself. You will attract more like-minded people that way and stand clear of way more conflict.
When leaving college
4. Keep your friends close. They will become apart of your support team and your network. A good team helps each other become established.
Life is scary! College is a part of that. This is just a little advice from the people that have been there already to help others get through this time with ease.
