An Open Letter To The Strongest Women I Know

I dedicate this article to my mom, my sisters, and my friends- and to any strong, independent women who need to hear this.

To The Strongest Women I Know,

Mom, your strength and intelligence amazes me every day. Without your support, I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am today. From all the times you comforted me when nothing else could console me, to all the times you made sure I had my shit together, to all the times you nursed me back to health and all the times you picked me up from school. You always understand when I need help, no matter the issue. I know the world could turn its back on me and I would still find you in my corner. The few times I've heard you cry, my heart broke. All I wanted was to make it better. You deserve the whole sky's worth of stars, Momma, and I would do anything to give it to you. I love you, mommy.

Sister, you are absolutely amazing and I'm not sure you even realize it. If it weren't for you, everything would be so much different. You always give the best, most sound advice, and you do so with my best interests at heart. You inspired me to join the band, which has been a huge part of my life for five years now. You're part of the reason why I have my taste in music (thanks), and I know you're with Mom, in my corner, always. Thank you for being part of the support system I needed and still need. You are an amazing mother to two beautiful girls who I love dearly. You are an awesome sister. Most importantly, you're my best friend, and I wouldn't trade you for the world. You also have cute dogs. I love you, sister.

Tabby, I know we don't see each other often but you're still my sister and I love you just as much. I know I can turn to you when I need you. You've been through the ringer and I wish I could take all the painful memories and make them better for you. You may get knocked down and kicked around, but nothing in this world could ever keep you down. Your strength and resilience has gotten you so far and I can only hope some of that rubbed off on me. You are an excellent mother to my niece and nephew and I love you all so, so much. You are the model Taurus. I love you, Tabby.

Lisa, you have more strength than a lioness and you hear that a lot, but that's because it's true. You are so well-written and articulate, every time I see you post, I get excited to read it. I wish I could fix all your problems, or at least make them easier, and I will always try to help you in any way that I can. Your two boys are awesome. They're so lucky to have you as their mother. You are kind, compassionate, wildly intelligent, and determined to do everything you can for anyone you can help. You are truly an inspiration. Even if you may not be directly related to me, you are still my sister. I love you, Lisa.

To my friends, I love you all so much. While I can't go through all of you individually, you are all strong, smart, independent, and more than capable of absolutely awesome things. Thank you all for always being there for me. I love you.

And to any woman who needs to hear this, you are killin' it at everything you do. Don't let anything get to you so much that it stops you from your goals because girl, you're already so close! To all my trans* sisters, you may not be related to me or even know who I am, but you are still my sister. I love you.

Signed,

Kristy

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
