5 Huge Things You Can Only Learn After You've Come Out As Transgender

It's been over a year and I've learned a lot so far.

5 Huge Things You Can Only Learn After You've Come Out As Transgender

Coming out as a trans guy has been one of the coolest things I have ever done, but it has also been really scary and frustrating at times. In the past year and a half (ish) I've learned a lot about myself and life as a trans person.

1. I was the last one to know that I was trans

When I came to my best friend all she did was ask me what I wanted for dinner because she genuinely didn't care, she already knew. Again, when I told my mom- all she said was "I know". Apparently, I was the last person to realize that I was trans.

2. Insurance companies are the literal WORST

If you want to start HRT or try and have any type of surgery; good luck my friend. You will become BFF's with your insurance company (if you're lucky enough to have one). In the past month my mom and I have called my insurance company and doctors offices at least twenty times, and I still don't have an initial appointment to even start HRT.

3. You're going to want a therapist

If you don't already have one, you're going to want a therapist. Your therapist is going to be your second biggest BFF (aside from the insurance company). Not only is it super great to have someone to talk to about your new life (it's not new, it's just new living it in front of people), but you have to have one to get your letters to start HRT or be considered for therapy.

4. You'll have a lot of questions & you'll have to answer a lot of questions

Coming out means people have a lot of questions- you don't have to answer any of these questions if you don't want to. On top of the questions everyone has for you, you're going to have a lot of questions for yourself and everyone else too. Take time to find the right answers. What name you want, if you want to change your name, what pronouns to use, what doctors to use, and anything and everything in between.

5. Being out is the most freeing feeling in the world

Take this time and enjoy it. Being in the closet is difficult and being out is so rewarding. The road ahead of you is long and it won't always be easy, there will still be hard times but you're on the way up now. Just take care of yourself.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

loaves of challah and easter bread stacked up aside each other, an abundance of food in baskets

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
