Tragedy Brings us Together

Why do bad things make us enjoy something we didn't before?

Have you ever realized that when something bad happens the world erupts and bands together?

Why..

Why is it that something bad needs to happen for people to come together? This past weekend the LGBT community suffered from a great tragedy. In the midst of this club shooting, hundreds of thousands of people shared or spoke on the matter of the shooting on Facebook or Twitter and other social media outlets. Even here, on the odyssey, countless articles have been written about the tragedy.

I'm not saying any of this is wrong, but why did it take something like this for people to band together in outrage? The reality of this, is that the only people who are sick to their stomachs and insanely hurt by this are the families of those who were slain. We all can be sadden by the matter but for some people who are sharing this everywhere just want to share it to share it. I think the entire thing is disgusting. What happened and the person who did this, just disgusting. I can honestly say I'm upset that things like this do happen. However, I'm not going around sharing this all over my social media. I'm not making harsh statements or posting things to garner attention to me. Like I have said, I know not everyone is doing this and I don't want to start any arguments over anything. My main point, and the main point to this article, is that we all wait for tragedy to happen before we start to feel sorry for each other. We wait until something bad happens to like people or a person. Why though?

Tragedy brings us all together for the weirdest of reasons. I've seen people hate a group of people or something and then switch their thought process after something bad happens. In regards to this past weekend, someone I know who hates the LGBT community openly on Facebook posted how deeply sad they are and they just can't bare the thought that this could have happened. This person openly could care less of what happens, and literally posted this up just to gain attention on Facebook. Why?

In today's world followers and people liking you online mean so much to people that some will openly post sad things or fake they feel something to gain friends and likes.

This disgusts me. Like I said, not everyone who has posted about the matter doesn't care but some people are really that unkind to do something like that. Regardless of that though, we all wait for something extremely bad to happen for us to come together. We should be together on things before the bad happens. We should all band together all the time for topics and problems and not wait for a massacre to happen to feel bad and start to come together. It's good we become strong when a tragedy occurs, but why do we wait for them to happen for us to get together?

This is all mostly food for thought. How does this make you feel?

Tragedy is saddening. It makes us come together to love something we didn't before. Why though cant we love things before the tragedy occurs?

Why?..

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
