6 Things Seattle Tourists Need To Know Before They Populate Our City

I promise that the first Starbucks isn't THAT interesting.

Now, I have been lucky enough to call this beautiful yet overly populated city my home for 18 of my 20 years of life...I must be pretty lucky, right? In the recent years of constantly traveling into the city, I've realized a lot of things about tourists that I feel just have to be addressed.

It's August: I promise that you don't need that umbrella

Giphy

We really do have weather other than the rain! I swear, I come into the city with shorts and a tank top on since it's 90 degrees, and I'm sweating my butt of by the end of the day, while I see 40 tourists at Pike Place market with umbrellas, acting like the black clouds are coming any second and a storm is brewing.

It truly mind boggles me.

You're not going to find cheap or free parking

Giphy

I'm sorry, but you came to the wrong city- please stop complaining, and park your damn car. Every time I am walking by a parking lot or a garage, I hear someone complaining to an attendant about prices to park and after a while...it just gets old!

Seattle and cheap aren't words that go together.

The first Starbucks is a money trap

Giphy

It's not what you would expect: the inside is completely modern, and there is about 3-4 of them within a block radius. There is literally no point in standing in line for two hours and blocking the entire Pike Place sidewalk. The line gets so bad that you can't even get into the food court to buy the over priced food, and leave.

Be prepared to wait.

Yes, Macklemore lives here

Giphy

And no, I don't run into him at whole foods, and you probably won't either.

Just because he lives here, doesn't mean he does daily meet and greets, and odds are, you probably won't see him while you're visiting (however being in the capitol hill area does give you a better chance).

There really is a gum wall

It really is one of the coolest, most overrated things in Seattle. BTW: no, there is no take a piece- to leave a piece rule...that's just nasty.

Upon talking to tourists, I've heard the rumor of you had to take a piece of gum to leave a piece, and I had never been so disgusted, so please don't do that.

Yes, we have the new Amazon spheres

Giphy

And yes, they are super dope buildings and no, you can't go inside of them because there's a 90% chance you don't work for Amazon. I constantly have out of town friends and family ask about these nifty attractions built in the heart of Queen Anne, and honestly, I am over it.

It takes a simple google search to know I can't get you in.

As much as I adore this city and have loved living in it, I swear the tourists here can be some of the most irritating. With all the stereotypes and just the ignorance for the place they are visiting, Seattle tourists just need to stop.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
