It's Fall, which means the year 2017 is coming to a close. Why not recap the highlights and lowlights of this year with a current, cutting-edge Halloween costume? Surely, you'll want the attendees of your campus Halloween party to still be talking about your daring, original costume choice going into the new year. Any choice from this list will be guaranteed to make you the talk of the season!

1. Any American Politician

What a surreal year it has been for American politics. The hot political climate of our great nation is exactly what everyone wants to think about at a party. A costume like this is sure to make everyone at your friend’s Halloween party laugh, not uncomfortable thinking about the miserable state of this country.

2. Rick Sanchez

Everyone knows you need to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. After a grueling two-year hiatus, this adult swim cartoon shoot up into the mainstream with the premiere of its third season. Show everyone just how intelligent you are for enjoying this esoteric sci-fi cartoon.

3. A Sexy Minion

Since promotion began for their titular feature film two years ago, you would be hard pressed to find any grocery or department store that doesn't carry Minion merchandise. With the release of Despicable 3 this summer, these lovable-but-strange little monsters don't seem to be losing of their commercial momentum. Why not cease their success, and reclaim your sexuality from the male gaze with this tantalizing take on Illumination Pictures' little yellow cash cows?

4. Sexy Powerpuff Girl

In the early 00's, three primary-colored super girls from The City of Townsville stole our heart. This year, Cartoon Network decided to breath new life into the classic girl power show from our childhood. The show's return thus far has been a hit with those who enjoyed the show during its original run. Turn the heads of those nostalgic fans with this cheeky costume.

5. A Duck Dynasty Member

The ever-iconic reality TV show Duck Dynasty ended in March this year. Bid it goodbye with this easily recognizable costume from Spirit Halloween's "Redneck" section. Surely, Duck Dynasty is as much of a punchline now in 2017 as it was when the show premiered in 2012.

2017 has been quite the year for memes. Each month, the internet has reliably provides us with a new joke to decontextualize and beat to death. Surely, the humor of each and everyone one is timeless. The summer blockbuster Suicide Sqaud won an Oscar earlier this year. So, why not take advantage of the whole category Spirit Halloween has dedicated to recreating the look of the lovable madwoman from the critically-acclaimed flagship of the DC Cinematic Universe?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
