Providence is a beautiful city by the sea, from its scenic views to its encapsulating artistic presence. But the Ocean State has more than just beaches, especially near the city! Providence is full of hidden gems. Here are my top five favorite places to hang out by the water in the Providence area!
Cumberland Reservoir

Although a little ways away from Providence, the Cumberland Reservoir is definitely worth the trip! It's peaceful and serene, the perfect place to lay out a blanket for a picnic, or to follow the path for a short hike. With a view like this, who could resist?
East Providence Reservoir
The East Providence Reservoir, only a few miles from Downtown Providence, is beautifully peaceful and scenic. The reservoir can be found in Rumford, a community within East Providence, or in Seekonk, MA (depending on which side of the water you want to visit!) There are several trails to walk through for short hikes along the shore, a little wooden walkway that takes you deep into the woods, and a small field near the edge. I've played fribee and had a picnic many times in this field, and it's always been an enjoyable experience!
India Point Park
India Point Park is without a doubt my favorite spot to hangout at on the East Side of Providence. The park is complete with a large field, a playground, and a bout house -- my personal favorite place to sit and relax. Right next to the boat house, there's a small gazebo I like to sit under while reading or people watching. And not to mention, the view is gorgeous!
East Providence Boat Yard
The East Providence Boat Yard, otherwise known as Bold Point Park, sits right across the bay from Providence and India Point Park. The view is so nice, you can sit in your car and star at the skyline for hours (like I've often done after work!) There's also a small path you can walk down to sit by the water and go fishing or read a book, and a short pier where the boats load up into the water that is really peaceful to sit on in the evening!
Water Place Park
Waterplace Park is my number one favorite place in Providence to hang out. Right in the heart of the city, and the location of the WBRU free concerts, the area is both peaceful and teeming with city life! The Providence Place Mall is a short walk away, and Memorial Boulevard is just across the bridge -- and so is Luxe Burgers! And not to mention, look at the view at night!

Providence is truly a beautiful city, and I couldn't imagine a better area to live in! What's your favorite place near the city to hang out?
