The past week and next month is a time where fashion is the only thing on my mind. Designers have worked tirelessly to put on 15 minutes of excellence. In those 15 minutes, anything could happen that can make or break your collection. Luckily for these designers, they hit the nail on the head with their Fall 2016 Menswear collections. These were the top four collections shown at fashion week.
1. Versace
2. Gucci
Well, this is certainly different from when Tom Ford sexualized Gucci and brought the failing fashion house back to life in the early 2000s. To be quite honest when I heard that Alessandro Michele was named the new creative director for Gucci, I had no idea who he was. Since then his collections have been catching my eye. This particular collection is literally picked from a '70s fashion guru’s closet. The clothes are ethereal and tell a story from 1970. Yes, it may be very costume, but the clothes can be enjoyed in pieces. A true fashion aficionado can enjoy this collection by mixing and matching with simpler pieces. It was definitely nice to see someone do something different than monochromatic looks and clean lines.
3. Salvatore Ferragamo
Salvatore Ferragamo is one of my all time favorite brands ever. They are one of the best at delivering perfectly tailored suits and classic leather shoes. This collection was no different in delivering that promise of quality clothing. This collection just embodied the classic businessman, but with an edgier twist to him that makes him stand out from everyone else around the office. What walked down the runway was impeccably designed outwear and sharp silhouettes against knits. The lines were clean, but they weren’t boring, definitely a job well done.
4. Ralph Lauren
There is never a time where Ralph Lauren goes wrong in the collections they put out. With a new creative director, I was a little worried in the direction of the brand. However, I had nothing to worry about because Ralph Lauren will always be timeless. This collection was an homage to an Après Ski vibe that was so spot on. To shades of cream and brown as well as fur and shearling jackets, a luxury ski trip was just screaming my name. That’s what Ralph Lauren does so well, is setting a mood that is perfection down to the socks. You can never go wrong with a purple label item.
