It's been a big year. Everyone and anyone who has been paying the slightest attention to media has seen how much has already happened. Headlines and events, both national and international, have been taking over the Internet and have become subjects of popular conversation. Given that it is only April, a lot has happened already. Below, are the most influential and important events to occur, so far.
The Brussels bombings.
Not only is this a tragic event that killed over 32 people, it has the potential to have resonating effects for many years to come. We will all probably see not only an increased presence of security forces in public places, but a change in people’s traveling patterns and overall mindsets.
The Bernie Sanders phenomenon (and really just politics in general).
Even if you’re not a fan, you have to admit that his success story of rising from the bottom of the electoral food chain is something to be admired. Despite all odds, his campaign is still running strong.
Glimpse of Nigeria’s missing girls.
Remember the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls? Earlier this month their Boko Haram kidnappers released video that proves after all this time they still might be alive and well. But, what people might not realize is that when and if they are returned to their families, they would never be the same. Although the world cares about the girls, this is no longer really about them. This campaign’s main focus has shifted from the individual people to the growing problem in Nigeria of mistreatment of women and political unrest.
Death of celebrities.
There are quite a few high profile celebrities who have passed away this year, many of whom will be dearly missed. A few of them include: Harper Lee, the author of "To Kill a Mockingbird," Alan Rickman, an actor who is most recognized for his roll as Snape in "Harry Potter," and also the popular musician David Bowie.
North Korea threatens nuclear missiles.
It seems like everyday North Korea is coming up with some new ploy to scare western nations. One “official” announcement after another updates the world on their new technology advancements or missile launches. Although they still probably pose a threat, it's not time to start panicking just yet.
