Now that the 100th Disney Channel Original Movie has been released, it is a great time to look back at the best ones out there! These are in no particular order, but are movies I enjoyed in my childhood, and still do today!
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL
This movie came out when I was 6 years old, in 2005, and changed my life forever. To this day, I know every lyric to every song, and dream of meeting someone singing karaoke at a ski resort.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2
This just has to be on the the list also. Although out of the three HSMs, this is my least favorite, it is still a pretty good movie. The choreography by Kenny Ortega, and all of the emotionally conflicted scenes, really made the movie stand out in my mind.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3
When I watched this final HSM, I really felt like I was graduating from high school too, even though I was only 9 years old at the time. This final movie in the trilogy really combined all of the love story, and friendly competition from the previous movies, and made it even more grown up.
CAMP ROCK
This movie, released 3 years after the first "High School Musical" again attracted the audience of children with fun songs that were easy to sing along with. The movie was also even more attractive because of its easy-to-relate-to storyline of a girl who doesn't quite feel like she fits in.
CAMP ROCK 2
Maybe trying to be like high school musical, I’m not sure, Camp Rock released a “final” movie also, in the form of "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam." Here, everybody is able to overcome their differences in order to battle a rival camp!
PRINCESS PROTECTION PROGRAM
Another Disney Channel movie starring Demi Lovato, centers around a teenage girl (Selena Gomez) and her father who works for the government on secret missions. Instead of a normal present, after a mission, he bring home another teenage girls to stay with them. Who wouldn’t want this to happen to them?
THE THIRTEENTH YEAR
This is a lesser known movie, compared to some of the others on my list, and came out in 1999. It is about a boy who on his 13th birthday, begins his transition into a mermaid. The only problem is that although he knows he is adopted, he was unaware his parents were mermaids.
THE CHEETAH GIRLS
This is a classic DCOM, with squad goals like no other. This group of girls sang songs together, traveled together and made every little girl want to be just like them!
HALLOWEENTOWN
The movies in this series, though seasonal, are classic just the same. This is a story about a girl whose grandmother and mother are witches, who just found out she is a witch herself, and must save all of the Halloween creatures who live in her grandmother's town.
HALLOWEENTOWN 2
This is yet another classic fall movie where the same girl, and her mother must save the town again. This time, the villain threatens people in their own town by attempting to transform trick-or-treaters into the Halloween characters they dressed up as.
HALLOWEENTOWN HIGH
Again, released 3 years after the previous installment in 2004, Marnie, the young witch, again has to save the day. She must save her guests from Halloween town from the Evil Knight of the Iron Dagger.
RETURN TO HALLOWEENTOWN
This is the final movie in the series, but this time the director has sneakily replaced the actress who plays Marnie in the previous movies, Kimberly J. Brown with Sarah Paxton! I mean were they thinking people wouldn’t notice something like that? In this movie, again Marnie is forced to save Halloweentown, this time with the help of her brother.
DEN BROTHER
This, again is a more obscure DCOM, made in 2010. It is the story of a teenage boy, forced to look after his sister and her fiends when all he wants to be doing is hanging out with his friends and playing hockey. It is a story of sibling love and juggling too many things at once. It is very funny, and I would highly recommend it.
TEEN BEACH MOVIE
This is a more recent release on Disney Channel, in 2013. It is a bit of an homage to High School Musical, and Camp Rock in its many songs and dance numbers. It is about two teens who are surfing and magically end up on the set of a 60’s beach movie musical.
TEEN BEACH MOVIE TWO
In the sequel, again the two main characters are at the beach, but this time, the characters from “Wet Side Story” (a 60’s beach musical) get stuck in their world, and Brady and Mack must help get them back to the movie.
CADET KELLY
This is one of the many classic Hilary Duff Movies. In this movie, she is sent to military school by her stepfather, to learn discipline. While at school, she is bullied by her Commanding Officer, and almost quits. The only reason she stays is to impress a boy by joining the drill team.
I hope you also enjoyed watching these DCOMs, and if you haven't yet, I would highly recommend them.
