The beauty world is a world of creativity but honestly, do we really know what we're doing? That's what makes it so fun; you can experiment, play around and have fun with it! However, we all have questions — beginners to beauty gurus.

1. What kind of primer should I use for my skin type?

Oily:

Primers that contain polymers stick your foundation to your skin and smooths (texture, pores, scars); primers that contain silica mattify the skin and keep it shine free. Some silicone based primers work very well at keeping your oils at bay however many include oils which are pointless if you are already oily. Stay away from any makeup products with oil!

Some very popular mattifying primers are:

Everyone's skin is different so one primer may work for you but do nothing for another oily gal; so, just try until you find your perfect match.

Dry:

Primers that are specifically hydrating will be your best friend. Try to stick to water based primers — ones that contain hyaluronic acid give you extra moisture. They help smooth the face and rid the face of any dry patches or flakiness. You will want to stay away from silicone based primers because they will cling and accentuate any dry patches.

Some of the most effective include:

Sensitive/Acne Prone:

Many people struggle with sensitive skin; some people know the triggers for their skin and others, like me, have no idea what irritates their skin. We all have breakout, and some have it worse than others, but makeup does not have to be a negative thing to put on your skin. Stay away from anything with alcohol! It will do more damage than any possible benefits.

The best primers on the market currently include:

Combination:

The majority of people have combo skin — not too oily, not too dry and not too sensitive. To find the perfect primer for your needs, you need to know which way you lean.

For those who are combo-oily, you will want something that keeps your oily region matte but not dry out the rest of your face. The best primers to look for are ones like the bareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer ($25) or the Catrice Prime & Fine Beautifying Primer ($8). Try to stay away from silicone primers that are advertised for oily skin; they can ball up so just use it solely on your problem area if needs be.

For those who are combo-dry, stay away from primers who will over hydrate and cause you to get greasy and shiny during the day. Stick to primers like L'ORÉAL Studio Secrets Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer ($13) or the Becca First Light Priming Filter ($38) that will make give you a luminous and glowy finish.

Primers are best applied thinly and directly on problem areas. Do not put a thick layer or it will cause a cakey, heavy and uneven finish.

2. Is rose water really effective?

Rose water has suddenly become one of those skin care trends that everyone has heard of. Now, we are all curious if it actually works. Skin care expert Dr. Deepali Bhardwaj said, "Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the redness of irritated skin, get rid of acne, dermatitis and eczema. It is a great cleanser and aids in removing oil and dirt accumulated in clogged pores."

Studies have found it helps balance our skin's pH levels which help prevent excess oils from being produced. Sounds like a dream come true, right?

Rose water toners, like Thayers Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel Toner - Rose Petal ($10) or MARIO BADESCU Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater ($7), instead of alcohol toners to better clean and tone the skin with out drying got skin out because of its astringent like properties.

Rose water can also be used on the scalp to help condition and get rid of dandruff or irritation. I personally use the two rose products above as my toner morning and night and the other to prep my face for makeup and refresh it through the day. I noticed a dramatic difference in my skin since starting to use it; it is less oily, smoother and less breakouts. So in my opinion, rose water is a god send!

3. How do you match your skin?

When you first start, matching your skin is somewhat difficult. The first thing you need to know is, your undertone never changes; however, factors such as rosacea, tanning, diet and many other factors can change your surface tone or shade.

You either have a cool, warm, or somewhere in between (neutral) undertone.

If you have a warm undertone, your skin will be yellow or golden toned, and your veins will have a green tint to them.

If you have a cool undertone, your skin with be pink, red or beige toned, and your veins will appear blue tinted.

If you have a neutral undertone, your skin will have a slight green or brown tone to it, and your veins will be a mix of blue and green.

If you can't tell which color your skin leans towards, hold up a white piece of paper to help intensify and make it more pronounced. Then with your undertone in mind, you will be able to pick much more easily foundation and concealer shades. To find shades of other makeup for your skin tone, you want some thing that compliments your skin tone and doesn't clash. For example, if you are extremely fair stay away from deeper blushes, or if you have a deep skin tone, don't used a pearl or light gold highlight.

Of course. if you do something and you like it, that's all that matters. But if you are unsure what looks best and you are just starting to experiment, use colors that compliments your surface tone or your undertone. You want to bring out your natural features, not cover them up!

4. Should I use moisturizer?

Yes, a thousand times yes! As wrong as it sounds, everyone needs to use moisturizer daily!

Oily:

I know it may sound like a step in the wrong direction for oily skinned ladies, but if you purchase the correct moisturizer, it will balance your skin which prevents it from producing excess oils. There are many on the market specifically for oily skin, including Mario Badescu Control Moisturizer For Oily Skin ($18) or Clinque Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel ($27). If you use the correct one, your face will be less oily throughout the day!

Dry:

Moisturizers are an absolute must for dry skin. You want one that will actually make a difference and hydrate your skin but not be too heavy and clog your pores.

Some of the most popular kinds are the Mario Badescu Hydarating Primer with Bio-Care and Hylaronic Acid ($20) or the Jack Black Epic Moisture MP10 Nourishing Oil ($32). Again, hyaluronic acid will deeply hydrate your skin with out being heavy.

Sensitive/Acne Prone:

Moisturizing will help to calm the skin and heal blemishes. You want to stay away from heavy moisturizer because those will cause your pores to become clogged. If you are sensitive, stay away from fragrances, parabans and sulfates because it will cause irritation. Try to stick to all natural or specifically for sensitive skin products. For sensitive skin, try Olay Moisturizing Sensitive Skin Face Lotion ($10) or Phlosophy When Hope is Not Enough Facial Replenishing Balm ($47).

If your are acne prone, try things with salicylic acid to help heal. Try to stick to things like Honest Beauty Dependably Clear Oil Free Moisturizer ($22) or Clean & Clear Essentials Dual Action Facial Moisturizer ($5). Ingredients in these moisturizers will help to heal blemishes and calming irritation while moisturizing your skin.

Combination:

When you have combo skin, you need something in the middle that won't over hydrate or under hydrate. You don't want a moisturizer for your problem areas (dry or oily) and a separate one for the normal skin on your face. Try things that balance your skin while hydrating like Tarte Maracuja Oil ($48) or CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion ($8). Moisturizing you fave will help balance your face and keep everything consistent.

5. How can you make your makeup last all day?

If you want to keep your makeup in place all day, you need to start with the base. Start with a cleansed, moisturized and primed face — use a primer you know will work for you and your skin's needs. Next is foundation. try to stick with ones that are advertised for long wear, 12 hour wear or 24 hour wear, but if you have one that isn't advertised as such but you know it works for you, by all means, use it! After all your cream products are applied, set!

Always apply powders on top of creams but never creams on top of powders.

Setting powder is a must for all skin types. It locks your makeup in so it wont crease, transfer or wear off, and if you're oily, it will help keeps all your oils at bay.

For oily skin use the CoverFX Perfect Setting Powder ($35) or the ULTA Mineral Setting Powder ($14).

If you are dry, use the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($33) or SEPHORA COLLECTION Bright Set Loose Finishing Powder ($7).

Then after it is set, apply all other products. To finish it off set everything with a setting spray like Urban Decay All Nighter ($31) or Milani Make It Last Setting Spray ($10). Setting spray will lock everything again so nothing will move all day! You can purchased mattifying ones if you are oily and illuminating ones if your dry so your make up will be flawless all day. The key is to set, set, set!

6. Where and how to apply highlighter?

Highlighting has taken off the past year. Every makeup company has their own line of highlighters, and people keep on buying! Applying highlighter can be nerve wracking because your bringing direct attention to specific spots. The more popular it gets, the better options there are. You don't want one that'll bring attention to your texture (that we all have), so stay away from ones that are glittery and have a chunky texture or feel stiff in the pan because they wont apply evenly and it will accentuate every pore, bump, dry patch and imperfection.

Some unsuccessful ones include: Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder ($32) and the ELF Baked Highlighter & Bronzer ($4). I am not speaking negatively on either of these brands — these products were just duds.

Stick to powders that are finely milled and feel smooth, creamy and buttery. If you want a cream or liquid highlight, look at one that look more metallic than glittery.

Try powdered highlights like the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost ($29) or the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder ($5).

If you want a cream or liquid highlighter, try the Tarte Tarteist PEO Glow Liquid Highlighter ($29) or the NYX Born To Glow Liquid Highligher ($8).

When applying highlight, apply only to the high planes of your face:

  • cheek bones
  • end of nose
  • bridge of nose to make it appear sloped
  • cupid's bow
  • brow bone
  • inner corner to wake up eyes
  • chin
  • forehead above arch of brow

You can apply to all those places above or as few as you choose. Start with a little product, and apply it till you are happy with the intensity.

For a blinding highlight use a packer brush like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brush #23 ($25) or the ELF Small Tapered Brush ($3). For a more natural look, use a fan brush like the WetnWild Fan Brush ($3) or IT BRUSHES FOR ULTA Airbrush Radiance Fan Brush #116 ($17).

Once you start applying highlight, you'll become obsessed like everyone else!

7. How to clean makeup brushes and how often?

Applying flawless makeup is easy with clean tools, but when they're dirty, things don't apply quite the same — things are streaky, patchy and cakey.

You need to clean them about every week or approximately after 4-5 uses.

All you need is running warm water, bar of soap like the beautyblender blendercleanser solid ($16) or Ivory Original Bar Soap ($3). You wet the bristles and swirl the brush in the soap. You can then either use a scrublet like the Ulta Brush Cleaning Mit ($5) or the Sigma SPA® EXPRESS BRUSH CLEANING MAT ($25) or even your hand. Scrub the brush under water until suds run clean and rinse until water is clear. Soap might need to be reapplied. To dry, lay on their side or hang upside down so water doesn't dry glue and cause mold to grow.

To clean sponges, wet completely and gently rub every surface until saturated in soap. Then roll in between your hands to create suds. Gently squeeze sponge under running water until runs clear and suds free. Set in a dry area to dry. Keeping your tools clean will prevent breakouts and the spread of bacteria. It will help your makeup apply flawlessly every time!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
