We've all been through some things that we can never forget. For me, most of the things that will forever stay burned in my mind are things that have totally freaked me out. I'll admit that some of them are pretty silly, but in the moment, they were totally terrifying.
Here are some my top eight most frightening moments:
1. I was in West Virginia with my family and family friends and we rented out a house for three nights. On the last day, my parents wanted to leave early in the morning to avoid traffic. I was supposed to wake up around 5-6 in the morning. I shared the bedroom and the bed with the other family's kids, Elisha and Asenath.
When morning came around, I woke up and tried not to be noisy while I began to pack in the dark. All of a sudden, the closet door starts to slowly open and a dark figure starts to walk out. I didn't notice the door opening until I looked in the mirror and saw that it had opened. You know that feeling when you're so scared that you just freeze up? That's what happened. And being the idiot I am, I begin to ask the figure, "I'm sorry, did I bother you?"
Turns out that the dark figure was actually Elisha. She was sleeping in the closet because her sister kept taking her space and couldn't really sleep. Haha, whoops. But honestly, at that moment, I almost fainted.
2. It doesn't happen everyday and hasn't happened for a long time now, but sometimes I can hear someone walking in my attic at night. It used to happen for weeks and then stop for a while when I was younger. Before I went to bed, after about a couple minutes, the floor boards would start to creak (and no it wasn't the house settling in). You could hear the footsteps start from the far side of the attic to right above where I would be laying.
Nobody would go up there unless they needed to clean up or get thick blankets for winter. However, my family and I rarely go up there so there wasn't a rational explanation why there were sounds of footsteps when everyone was in bed.
3. I was 12 at the time and was home with my mom due to a school closing. It was just us, my dad was gone for work. I was on the couch, watching television while my mom swept the house. After a while I begin to hear scuffles from the attic and some of my old electronic toys begin to play. I ignored it because the only explanation for this would be my mother sweeping and accidentally bumping into a few things. But, as soon as I think that, I hear my mom coming from the basement. She was in there the entire time while the noises came from the attic; I still haven't confronted my mom about it.
4. Breaking my nail for the first time.
No lie, I was terrified when it happened. Don't judge me.
5. Seeing a whole mob of people running towards a fight at the mall. Seriously, so many people of all ages were trying to watch a fight that broke at the food court. Just imagine a stampede of people running right towards you.
6. A couple years back, my parents, family friends and I went tubing at Gunpowder River. If you've ever been to the river used for tubing, you know that most parts are fairly slow and the water is about a foot deep. We were floating along and we realized that we didn't start at the right point for tubing; we were on the rough side of the river. This side of the river was very deep, fast paced and had "obstacles." These obstacles included big rocks and fallen trees. We were all separated after a while due to some of us getting stuck between rocks, falling off our tubes or crashing into each other.
I was a few feet away from my dad and some of my friends were right behind of me. In front of us, the river kind of parted. On the left side, there was a fallen tree and rocks, but on the right side, it was clear. Somehow, some way, they managed to float to the right side, but I was stuck heading towards the tree. At first, I thought that it wasn't a big deal because there was some space under the tree to float right under. Right as I reached it, I see this huge spider walking on one of the limbs. Literally, this is how it felt like:
Not only did that give me a heart attack, but as I saw the spider, I freaked out and fell out of my tube. I was convinced that I was going to die because I knew I couldn't swim, so when I hit the water, I started to drown. When my dad came to "save me," it turns out that the water was only three feet deep. Don't get me wrong, but that spider really looked menacing.
7. I was with two of my best friends, Hannah and Melvy, one night. Hannah and I just watched a horror movie, so we decided to go to her room to join Melvy. We're all talking and all of a sudden, we hear something scratching the door. It happens again and being the responsible, calm adult that I am,I start to freak out. No lie - I start to get scared and come up with these insane conclusions of what it could be because I was so paranoid from the movie. I'm over here screaming "What if it's the Hash Slinging Slasher?! What if it wants to sacrifice us?" and Hannah starts to hide under the blanket with me because we're so terrified. Ignoring us, Melvy starts to open the door, and as this happens, Hannah snatches all the blankets to cover herself with and I take a hair curler to protect us. Guess what it was?
It was Kate, Hannah's dog. She was scratching the door because she wanted to be with us. She's adorable and all, but sometimes she can be El Diablo.
8. I had a vivid dream of a little boy. Not just of any little boy, it was one of my family friend's little brother, Colin. In my dream, I was aware that it was a dream, but I could only move my head. I was just laying in my bed, with the night lamp as my only source of light. I could only see the left side of my room which consisted of the door and dresser that's a couple feet away.
So, since I know that I'm dreaming, I began to close my eyes and open them. Then, I saw Colin standing next to me. I don't know why he would show up, but he was just there staring at me. All of a sudden, he says something and points to the dresser. He keeps staring at me while pointing to the dresser. Then, this is where things started to scare me to death: Colin began to scream! I can't hear anything, but I know that he's screaming. As soon as he starts to scream, the dresser starts to shake uncontrollably. This goes on for about 30 seconds and then I hear screaming as I wake up. I don't know if it was just my imagination or a sign, but all I know is that there was no way I could have made something like that up on my own.
I guess what we can all learn from stories like this is is that crazy things can always happen to anyone.
