Top 7 Life Lessons From Harry Potter
Wikia
  1. You have to face your fears to do what is right. In the Chamber of Secrets, Ron, who is deathly afraid of of spiders, has to go into the forbidden forest in order to get information on why the chamber was opened. He has to go into a lair of thousands of spiders and even confront a gigantic one. Facing one’s fears is difficult yet sometimes necessary for the greater good.
  2. Best friends will get in trouble for you. In book two, Ron uses the flying car to break Harry out of the Dursleys but then gets in a lot of trouble by his mother for taking the car without asking. They then get locked out of the platform to Hogwarts and then take the car again. This prompts his mother to send him a Howler that yells at him in front of the entire school.
  3. Sometimes we must face our battles alone. Throughout almost all of the books Harry must confront Voldemort alone. Hermione and Ron (and sometimes other later on) help him get to the end; however, the actual battles between Harry and Voldemort come down to them two alone. This being said, when you know you are loved and have people that care about you, you are never truly alone.
  4. That there is more than meets the eye. Everyone is terrified of Sirius Black, yet he turns out to be one of the most kind and loving people there is. The students love Professor Lupin but it turns out that he is really a werewolf. Peter Pettigrew was the Weasley’s rat for 13 years and then finally was turned back into a human and was exposed as a helper of Lord Voldemort. These three examples show how people cannot be so quick to judge others so quickly.
  5. You should never let somebody tell you who is good company. In the first book, from the very beginning, Draco Malfoy attempts to make Harry ditch Ron in pursuit of his friendship; however, Harry won’t have it. Being friends with someone because they’re rich or have more esteemed parents is not how one should choose their friends.
  6. Friendship/Love is the greatest treasure one can have. The greatest representation of love that is seen throughout the Harry Potter novels is with Snape. He hates Harry because he looks so much like his father James and James married Lily. Snape loved Lily so much that he protected Harry for seven years and his Patronus (protecting spell) was even the same shape as Lily’s was. Snape loved Lily so much that he ultimately laid down his life to save her son.
  7. Good will always triumph over evil. Through seven books and eight movies, Harry represents the good that overall will always defeat the evil that is Voldemort. Harry sacrifices his own life in order to destroy the last horcrux that is kept within his brain and ultimately allow him to destroy Voldemort forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
