Even though we are bearing the harsh season of winter right now, pretty soon summer will be here; and with summer brings many exciting events and activities. One of these events are music festivals, such as Governors Ball and Panorama, which are held every summer and host a whole new wave of music and art. Last summer I went to Panorama and had a blast, but there are a couple of things one should know before going into any of these festivals.
1. Always bring sunscreen and a water bottle
I can't stress that one enough. Since the festival is held during the hottest months of the year, your going to be dehydrated fast. Also, there are going to be thousands of people waiting to see the same performances your seeing. Fortunately, the festival host free water spots where you can drink, so always bring a container. When it comes to the sun, always put on sunscreen so you don't come home not being able to sleep in your bed.
2. Wear clothes that show that your ready to party
Don't let your clothes be boring and show that your not having fun. Always wear something that reflects your personality. Your clothes should also be comfortable for any weather situation rain or shine. You should also buy any merchandise from the pop up shops around the festival and also bring merchandise from last years festival( if you went last year) as a creative twist. Shoes are a big one because of the immense walking around and dancing.
3. Just because you don't know anyone thats performing doesn't mean you won't have fun
I've had this problem myself looking at the day by day lineups and not knowing at least half of the performers. But honestly, thats what these festivals are for; for you to listen to new music with other people and to share in the amazing experience. And for the most part, you'll wind up loving it in the end. Just in case you don't want to see these performances, theres always a few DJ's that will always get the party going.
4.Enjoy the art and activities
Not only are festivals about the music scene, but they're really big on art and design. Festivals partner with different artist and painters around New York to give the festival a colorful vibe and its audience an artistic experience like no other. Also, festivals try really hard to entertain the audience while they await other performers, like mini-golf and music games. So grab a bunch of friends and take advantage of the sights and wonders.
5. Never drive to the festival
The festival says to never drive to the event because THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING. Thats all there is to it.
