This week I will be showing you some of my most recent drawings and explaining the motivation behind them. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did create them!
1. Abstract Sky Ship
The target of this drawing was for me to start off with a simple abstract shape (the diamond shape of the larger body). Then I decided to add pillars that are similar to buildings emerging out of the shape. At the time I recently saw an ad for an old animated series returning called "Samurai Jack". In the background of the ad, there were sharp silhouettes of buildings. Those buildings were the main influence of the drawing. The underside of the ship has some sort of symbol that I imagine glowing. Finally, the backside of the "ship" has three additional pillars that resemble ship engine "thrusters".
2. The Man
Sometimes I like just attempting to draw people. Obviously, the drawing above isn't perfect, plus I decided to give a more alien theme to the figure. The smoke/fog behind the being gives an even more mysterious look. The drawing as a whole was influenced by the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", specifically the final scene.
3. City in the Sky
If you have read my previous articles you may find this image familiar. It is another drawing of my idea of a utopian city high up in the sky. I draw this city whenever I feel the urge because I like the idea as a whole. An oasis in the sky. I play around with shading to give a glow emerging from the base of the towers.
4. Atlas
This drawing is pretty simple. It is my own version of the Greek Titan, Atlas. I know he is supposed to hold up the heavens, but I like the idea of Atlas holding up the world itself. The mountains in the background were drawn before the world in his arms was. Now I like to imagine that he is in another place entirely and that he holds up the world while its inhabitants are unaware.
5. A Vision
This image is one of my own dreams. I envision that one day we can build a tether to space that will make space exploration much easier. The hand represents the potential we have to make this a reality. The city itself is not shaded yet because the image is simply a vision. One day, though, it will become a reality.
