SHINE

On Saturday June 25 the annual SHINE girls conference took place. It was a powerful move of God as young ladies ages 12-18 got together to worship God in there own unique way. Each year more and more girls get involved joining "#theshinemovement" and so should you!

Here are some of the top reasons why you should join #theshinemovement!

1. SHINE stands for Serve Him IN Everything.

Matthew 5:16 is the driving force behind the shine movement. It states "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven". The movement is all about serving God but also allowing others to see your light. As Chrisitians we want to spread the good news of what God had done in our lives, but also we should live in such a way that others can see God through us. Whether it is through our attitude, actions or how we handle difficult situations His light should be seen through us. That is what keeps the shine movement going as we walk upright in our relationship with God other will want to join and so on.

2. SHINE is a sisterhood that is on fire for God.

There is nothing like some really great friends that you can trust and hang out with. In SHINE we have that true bond between each other. It is awesome because the true friendships that form are ones that last. Sometimes it is hard to find people that are open and on fire for God just as you are, but through SHINE you can meet people that are constantly living for God. It is encouraging to know that you are not the only one. These sisters that are gained will be there through easy and difficult times. The best part is that they also of love the Lord and will pray with you and for you.

3. SHINE encourages the girls to be uniquely them through the fashionably modest fashion show.

The past three at the end of the shine conference there is a fashion show. Each year has a different theme. This years theme was fashion on a budget "thrifted style." Thrifty is a big trend currently where people are able to find great clothes at an incredibly discounted price. One of the things that makes thrifty so great is that it always unique. This is important in the SHINE movement as we encourage our girls to be themselves in a world where society pushes ideas onto them of how they should be. The fashion show serves two purposes. First to show the girls how to dress modestly and still "#slay." But secondly it is for the girls to know that it is okay to be different and as a teenage christian there should be something different about them.

4. SHINE is a group of worshippers.

There is nothing more beautiful than to see 100 girls truly worshipping and praising on one accord. The worship is amazing. As they sing fresh and new songs together. It always really fun to watch as the girls get into it. They jump, dance and praise in their own way.

5. A fresh and anioted message is preached.

This is my favorite part. I love how God is able to speak in such a way that gets our girls attention. On Saturday we heard from Ocielia Gibson who gave an inspiring word about how God has a plan for our lives. She even has a Bible study in Lifeway called More Than Pretty. In this Bible study you not only get a book but also corresponding DVDs. It is really powerful as Ociela goes through how we are more than beautiful on the outside but also on the inside as well. At the conference there is usualy two speakers the other being the conference host and founder of SHINE Cherese Dickerson. She is the visionary for this conference and is just really awesome because she truly has a heart for what SHINE is about.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
