This last May on Friday the 13th I was blessed to become an Aunt of a sweet little girl named Nora. Since then I have learned some of the best perks of being an aunt. However, I know I will continue to learn more perks along the way. For now though here are some of the best ones I have learned so far...
1. Abundance of cuddles.
Let's be honest it never gets old watching how peaceful they sleep or cuddling up next to them. Especially when they fall asleep in your arms or holding your finger with their whole hand.
2. Snapchat filters are way more fun.
Snapchat always becomes more fun with funny faces, especially if those are paired with a baby! Also, one day we can always look back and laugh at all the funny pictures we took, and I can use them to embarrass her in front of her future boyfriends.
3. Buying clothes just became more fun!
Baby clothes are adorable, and they are constantly growing, and needing more clothes.... which means constant shopping for more and more clothes. Also means more shoe shopping, which is a very good perk for shoe lovers, like me!
4. You always have a photoshoot participant.
Sometimes willingly, and sometimes not so willingly...
Because someone must document their undeniable cuteness, and freeze it in time. And someone has to help you get more practice taking pictures of models, so why not have a baby challenge you, that will not just smile when you say, "cheese," especially if they decide to cry instead!
5. You get to watch an amazing child grow into an even more amazing adult.
You get watch all their dreams become a reality, hopefully with your help along the way. From watching them start to roll, to crawl, to walk, and to run. Then one day hopefully they too will get to see it from your point of view, as they too will get to watch their beautiful niece or nephew grow up.
Because sometime seeing someone so little and precious puts our own lives into perspective and what we already have accomplished, whether we are 19, 49 or 90.
Lastly, Miss Nora I hope all your dreams really do come true, and I can't wait to teach you a multitude of things; from showing sheep to playing sports. However, I hope you know to never wish your life away, because it goes by faster and faster every year.
So here's to all the Aunts out there, especially all the ones that have been there for me over the years, thank you. Even a thank you to all the ones who constantly told me that they could remember when I was "this little," because I know one day I might tell Nora the same thing.
