The Perks Of Having An Older Sister

From a little sister to her older sis.

The Perks Of Having An Older Sister

Sisters. We fight, argue, make-up, and then do it all over again. What some people may not know is that sisters have an unbreakable bond. No matter how many times we fight, yell at each other, or get mad at who took what out of each other's closets we end up being completely fine 10 minutes later only because we do love each other. But there are certain things about why older sisters are better and here's why:

1. Her Closet

Occasionally, I wander into my sister's room and take (just a few) shirts or shoes and then try them on in my room without telling her. When I come downstairs and watch her eye roll as I'm wearing one of her shirts I realize maybe I should of asked...but that is what's nice about having a sister..she eventually gets over it. Really though, nothing is better than being able to share clothes, I don't know what I'd do without my second back-up closet.

2. Always having someone to take pictures with

Every vacation we go on as a family, I am always thankful I don't have to stand awkwardly on the beach taking solo pictures while my mom is saying "one, two, three" before she takes the picture. Instead, I have my sister to stand by my side while our mom does that and we die because everyone is watching.

3. Watching her do it first

All of my life, I've gotten to watch my sister do everything first. Whether it's her getting her drivers license, going to college, or me always making her get her flu shot first I get to watch her do it. I learn from her mistakes and from her achievements. Being the baby of the family isn't so bad when you have a great role model of a sister to watch.

4. My built in best friend

Being able to be born with an immediate best friend is pretty lucky. Our whole lives we've always had each other. I was never lonely playing babies, stuck taking embarrassing halloween pictures alone, riding bikes, or having to sleep alone when there was a thunderstorm. I've always had her through each stage of my life.

5. We understand each other

I can always tell when she's upset, excited about something, or occasionally annoyed with me. No matter the situation we can always read each other better than anyone else because we're sisters. We know each others facial expressions like that look we give each other when we are making fun of our parents. There is no one else I'd rather laugh with, cry with, fight with, travel with, shop with, or explore with than my sister. I get her and she gets me.

6. Her bossiness

As much as I hate admitting it, her bossing me around does come in handy every now and then. She really does have my best interest at heart.

7. The Hand-Me-Downs

Sometimes I would complain about that I always got the hand-me-down's, but now that I look back at it my sister did have some pretty stylish clothes even at age 10. Now it's a privilege to get her hand-me-down's because we basically fight over each other's closets.

8. Being her twin

We can't go anywhere without someone asking if we're twins. "Are you guys twins?" No..we're actually four years apart.

9. Always having someone to annoy

This one doesn't need much explanation it's kind of a little sister's job.

10. Having a personal chauffeur

Since she is the oldest it would only make since that she drives everywhere, right

11. Letting me tag along

Being 10 years old and getting to listen to all of the "older girls" gossip was pretty awesome. I enjoyed the movie nights, sleep-overs, and the movie date tag alongs.

Even if we're right down the hall from each other or a state apart, our relationship never changes. Thank you to my older sister, life wouldn't be the same without you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
