1. Tarzan (“You’ll Be In My Heart”)
We’ve never really enjoyed the Tarzan tree house at Disneyland as much as all the other rides. But the Disneyland tree house is not an accurate depiction of the brilliance of Tarzan. This movie takes the cake for the most heartwarming movie of all time. The bond between Tarzan and his ape mother, Kala, is relatable and heartwarming and Tarzan and Jane share a relationship that rivals that of Beyoncé and Jay-Z. And let’s not forget about the soundtrack. Based on the amount of goosebumps we get and our failed attempts to hold back tears when we hear the songs, we can conclude that Phil Collins is a genius.
2. Brother Bear (“On My Way”)
You would think everything about Brother Bear should make it one of the top Disney movies of all time, but sadly, it doesn’t captivate Disney fans like other movies do. Why? I don’t know, but Disney blows our minds with beautiful animation, a captivating story about brotherhood, friendship, and love. And once again, Phil Collins outdid himself with a soundtrack that brings tears to our eyes.
3. Robin Hood (“Oo De Lally”)
We all know Disney specializes in movies featuring talking animals and objects, but this movie really goes above and beyond. Robin Hood begins as most fairy tales do until a lute-playing rooster begins to narrate the story. The characters include a thumb-sucking lion named Prince John, an evil snake named Sir Hiss, Friar Tuck the badger, a wolf as the Sherriff of Nottingham, a chicken named Lady Kluck, a pretty vixen named Maid Marian, a big bear named Little John, and of course the heroic, mischievous fox named Robin Hood.
Despite the imaginative characters and humor, Robin Hood reflects real life issues such as poverty and autocracy. Prince John demands taxes that will ultimately ruin the community of Nottingham until Robin Hood and Little John plot against his treachery. Robin Hood is a legend not only in the community of Nottingham, but also to the kids who grew up watching this suspenseful, witty, and comical film.
4. High School Musical (“Breaking Free”)
If you say you didn’t enjoy HSM, you’re probably a liar or just dull. This modern version of Grease has every quality of an underrated Disney movie. The director, Kenny Ortega, outdoes himself with stellar choreography. You know you secretly wanted your high school to break out in song during lunch like in “Stick to the Status Quo.” Zac Efron was your celebrity crush from 2006-present and the movie represents your true high school fantasy. Furthermore, Sharpay was the original Blair Waldorf and that in itself makes the movie top notch.
5. Mulan (“I’ll Make a Man Out Of You”)
Besides the fact that it’s one of the first Disney “princess” movies in which a woman didn’t need a man to save her, Mulan is full of suspense, action, and romance, making it arguably one of the best Disney movies ever. Although most Disney movies are notorious for either killing off the mother in the beginning or her complete absence all together, Mulan has a mother, father, and grandmother. Both of the females in her life play a significant role in Mulan’s strong female character and the outcome of the movie. Mulan is everything a young girl should strive to be: beautiful, witty, and smart.
