Madison Square Garden was this years home of the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on August 28th. This was a brilliant night of entertainment filled with many talented celebrities. From the fashion on the white carpet before the show, to the talented artists sharing the stage, MSG lit up and memories were made. Here are a few memorable moments:
1. BEYONCE! BEYONCE! BEYONCE!
Queen B took the stage to perform a Lemonade medley that lasted 15 minutes. This iconic performance could have easily ended the show. It was also a very video oriented performance, which made the viewers at home feel like they were part of the crowd. Bey picked up a baseball bat and swung it at one of the cameras during Hold Up, which almost made her performance interactive with the viewers. The screen appeared cracked and hit the floor, pointing in the direction in which the queen would walk next. Overall, it was an insanely perfect performance once again. In addition to a flawless act, Beyonce took home the Video of the Year award for Formation. (No surprise there.)
2. Everything Rihanna
The Barbados beauty took the stage not once, but four separate times to perform. Her last performance of Love on the Brain blew everyone away, where she admired her standing ovation for a minute before accompanying Drake during his rewarding speech to Rihanna as he handed over the Micheal Jackson Video Vanguard award. I can't be the only one who thought Drake was going to propose right then and there.
3. Kanye West
All I heard before he took the stage was that he had four minutes to do whatever he wanted. Granted most of his stage time was standing there in silence while fans shouted at him, what he said was actually very calming compared to the Kanye we all know and love. I feel like he has a lot to say, but can't put his thoughts into a specific outline and follow it. I could see where he was going with it, though. Basically he was ranting about being famous and the pressures that come along with it.
4. Chance The Rapper
Aside from being a bundle of cuteness 24/7, he sported a Mario Brothers inspired outfit complete with overalls and a hat for the night. However, Chance's reaction to being interrupted by Beyonce during a backstage interview is by far one of the cutest things I've seen in awhile.
5. Alicia Keys
Not only was she slaying the no make up look, but she recited an emotional and beyond powerful poem about the equality and freedom of our nation in honor of Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech.
