In Game of Thrones, there tends to be a lot going on in terms of characters, events, and everything else. So much, in fact, that many people might lose track of some of these characters. After all, Gendry is still somewhere out there rowing that boat to this very day. There are a lot of characters that lived prior to the start of the show that the series simply cannot include, because it is hard to incorporate most of these characters when they have nothing to do with the plot of the show (besides a certain Dragon Prince…). In addition, the show runners dislike the use of flashbacks- which was the good part of Bran’s storyline this past season because they could have ‘flashbacks’ that served the plot and were not cheap. Anywho, here is a list of my top characters from the lore of the show and books that will most likely not appear during the present setting of the show.
Also, spoilers I suppose?
1. Brynden “Bloodraven” Rivers
A prominent player in the Blackfyre Rebellion lore, he is not expected to appear in the main show unless an adaption is made out of the stories where he was alive in. He was a bastard of the king but instead of fighting House Targaryen, he supported them. He served as Hand of King and was known to be the real ruler of the Seven Kingdom while he was the Hand because of the king at the time was not all that great. He welded a Valyrian steel sword- “Dark Sister”, referenced by Ayra in the show. Overall, he seemed pretty cool.
2. Rhaegar Targaryen, “The Dragon Prince”
While discussed numerous times during that show by the likes of Barristan Selmy and his younger sister Dany, the only way for him to be in the show if they expand the scenes with Bran Stark next season- which is very likely. But nonetheless, he has not appeared in the show as of now. He was the reason Robert’s Rebellion started and according to Barristan Selmy, he seemed like a good person at heart while his father was burning people alive out of joy.
3. Bran the Builder Stark
Starks are cool, with their direwolves (when they are not getting killed) and their status as the main characters of the show. We have had great characters like Ned, Arya, Robb, Jon, and even Benjen come from House Stark (in part in Jon’s case). Who better to see than the founder of them all? According to legend, Bran built quite a bit (hence the name…), he built the famous Wall in the North while serving as the first King of the North back before the conquest of Westeros.
4. Duncan the Tall
Main character of the Tales of Dunk and Egg, which probably will be adapted after the main show ends because of comments made by George RR Martin himself and the HBO executives. But until then, he is a great character referenced a few times throughout the show. The stories of his exploits were said by Old Nan to be Bran Stark’s favorite stories and his time as Lord Commander of the King’s Guard under King Aegon IV had four pages in the Book of Brothers as pointed out by Joffrey. He is someone that we might see in the future and that would be amazing because of the tales of his greatness would make for a nice adventurous show that would not be always dark and gloomy such as the certain show.
