It may seem like winter is never going to end, but trust some day it will. Some day hopefully very very soon. Snow is only acceptable for so long. Iowa City in the spring is one of my favorite places. Campus is beautiful and there is always something to do. Here are some of my favorite thing to do in Iowa City in the spring.
1. Patios and Beer Gardens
When the weather starts to get above negative degrees and we can sit outside without freezing to death, the Iowa City bars start to bring out their patios and beer gardens. Patios and beer gardens might be the best thing in the entire world. After spending the whole winter in my bed or at a sweaty bar, I enjoy the change of pace. Friends, people watching, food, beer, and the great outdoors really what could be better?
2. The Ped Mall in general
Just walking through the Ped Mall during spring is amazing. There is always something going on. Every store has great deals during their sidewalk sales. There is always live music and people dancing along. Who doesn't love running through the fountain? Maybe that's just me and every five year old in Iowa City, but you definitely need to try it some time.
3. The Res
In the great state of Iowa, we only have so many options for beaches. When it starts to get warm and you want to get your tan on the Res is the place to go. It's just like being in Hawaii. Maybe not that far, but going to the Res with friends is always a good time.
4. Froyo
Not like I ever stop eating froyo, but it feels more acceptable in the spring. Here in Iowa City, we have a wide variety of froyo places to choose from. You can never really go wrong.
5. The Pentacrest
In the spring, there is always something happening on the Pentacrest. Students come out with their hammocks, frisbees, and those tight rope contraptions and enjoy the beautiful day. It is also a great place to study in between classes. If you say you've never taken a nap on the Pentacrest on a nice day, you are a liar.
Bring on the 40 degree weather, Iowa City.
