Top 4 Things Professors Should Not Do
USA College

As a college student I've learned how to stay awake during boring classes. Professors, please take note… Times have changed, which means learning methods are different, they are not the same as they used to be decades ago. It's not as simple as giving the class and that's it. Try to involve the students. Make them want to learn and make them want to love what they are studying. If I've learned anything from college is ways professors can bore a student, and this does not only apply for college. Here are the 4 things a professor/teacher should not do when giving class.

1. Don't read the power point.

Professor or teacher, students don't come into your classroom so you can delight them reading them your power point. Whether you made it yourself or not, We know you feel proud about it, Hey! you even added transition, but for God’s sake, send it to us and don't make us go to class if all you're going to do is read it exactly as it is. We learn how to read when we are little, we can do it ourselves. How about actually trying to explain something beyond what's on the power point, use it as a reference only.

2. Do not talk the whole class.

Take a breath once in awhile. Nobody wants to be in a class where the professor or teacher talks non stop. I feel like this one is a nightmare. If all you do is talk without any visuals or without any textbook as reference, students are bound to get really bored at the class. Use something that the students can connect with while you talk.

3. Don't assume students don't care.

INTERACT WITH THE GROUP. Students get better grades when their professor or teacher tries to involve them in class. Don't make this all about you and your thoughts. I know sometimes students don't want to cooperate and participate in class, but make them want to. I had a professor that obligated us to get involved and by the end of the semester we had no problem asking, commentating and even answering questions. It's all about how you involve your students in class. This one right here is the key to success.

4. Don't talk about something that isn't about the class.

Dear professor or teacher, nobody wants to disrespect you and this is something nobody will tell you but, nobody cares about your life. It may sound really harsh but, it's the truth. We just want to get an A on the class. As a student, I don't mind getting off of topic for five minutes but, don't make the whole class about it. We really don't care about your life experiences, we want to learn about what the class is really about and what the course can offer us. It is extremely boring when a professor or teacher talks about something that isn't about what we are actually are studying. If the class is hard enough, don't make it impossible by using the time of the class to explain something not related to it. In conclusion DON'T STAY AWAY FROM THE TOPIC.

I know many people will think otherwise, since this is how professors/teachers have been teaching for many years but, times have changed. The attention span for this generation is an approximate seven seconds. If you don't catch their attention in seven seconds or less, they won't even listen to you. It's time to change the teaching method. Personally, I learn more in a class where the professor involves and brings new ideas and activities to the class than in an old fashion way class where they just stand there and dictate. For example, a philosophy class is boring enough, it's time professors figure out a way to make it more enjoyable.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
