2015 had the highest grossing movie of all time in "Star Wars:The Force Awakens" and while this movie was amazing, it left much to be desired of the upcoming movies of 2016. In 2016, there are several comic book adaptations coming out. One of which, "Deadpool," is already a huge smash success. Here are my top three comic book movies to look for in 2016.
3. "Captain America: Civil War"
With this movie being basically a pseudo "Avengers 3" it is hard not to be excited. Just from the trailer alone, it looks amazing. A lot of the time it is great to see your favorite superhero fight the big bad guy or a group of superheroes taking on an army, like the first two avengers movies. This movie will be deeper on a human level as it is really telling a human story of different ideologies. This concept is extremely relevant to the United States today, what with the election coming soon after this movie is released. This movie comes out May 6. Be ready.
2. "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice"
A lot of people - myself included - were enthralled by Christian Bale's portrayal of Batman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, so the insertion of Ben Affleck has a lot of people skeptical about his portrayal of Batman. As long as we get "Gone Girl" Ben Affleck rather than "Daredevil" Ben Affleck, I think we'll be okay. Whereas we have nothing to worry about with Henry Cavill as Superman. His performance in "Man of Steel" did more than enough to show that he is perfect for the role. This movie is following the tone of a civil war a little bit by having the heroes fight one another. A man who wants to protect his city at all costs and an alien with superhuman abilities fighting would typically seem one-sided, with Superman having the obvious edge. However, it goes deeper than that. At the end of the day, in my opinion, Batman will win because of one reason. Deep down Clark Kent is a good man and deep down Bruce Wayne is not. Enough with the superhero movie testosterone. We finally have a Wonder Woman on the big screen. Thank God. Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson) is great in "Avengers" but I think the world is finally getting the badass superheroine that they deserve. Gal Gadot looks amazing as Wonder Woman and it is about time a female superhero is shown in a monumental movie like this one.
1. "Suicide Squad"
Yes! I don't know how much longer I can wait for this movie, to be perfectly honest. This star-studded cast of Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Jared Leto promises to deliver something amazing. Telling the story from the side of the villains has, it seems, never been done quite like this. The amazing Will Smith is playing Deadshot, a conflicted assassin who does not ever miss a shot, ever. Jai Courtney is playing the drunk, but still deadly, assassin, Captain Boomerang. The powerful Viola Davis is playing the mastermind, Amanda Waller. The drop-dead gorgeous Margot Robbie is playing Harley Quinn, a former therapist who became crazy when she a got a certain patient by the name of The Joker or, as she calls him, Mr. J. Yes indeed, Jared Leto has taken up the mantle of playing The Joker. Let's be honest here, It will never be Heath Ledger's Joker of the Nolan "Batman" trilogy, but I believe he will put his own personal spin on it to make it his own. There is already a story of him so in character that he sent Margot Robbie a dead rat as a present for her birthday during filming. Wow. The trailer with "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the background tells the whole story.
